Sharon Osbourne is removing her band

"Does that mean when a 13 year old kills someone, they should not be tried for it, but their parents should be. Even if their parents are very good parents, go to church, have high morals and always talked to their kids? Bull. Even at age 13, the kid knows the difference by then between right and wrong."

When you see the 13 year old on tv who had killed someone it`s because its so unusual. That`s why it`s on the news. As you will see that when these young kids do kill they usually dont come from stable two parent homes. Maybe some do come from good homes but as I said there are exceptions to everything.

As I`ve also said a few times on this board. Do you think it is a coincidence that the overwhelming majority of people in prison come from broken homes ?

Carroll O`Conner said himself after his adult child died of a overdose. "Get between your kids and drugs anyway you can" This means more then just teaching them. It means being involved in thier lives in almost every detail, everyday. It`s a hard job but it must be done.

Kids usually know the meaning between right and wrong but that doesnt mean that they do it. This is why kids need guidance in life and it`s the parents job to do it in every detail.

AGAIN, THERE WILL ALWAYS BE EXCEPTIONS

Your broken home argument is too simple minded to even bother....the majority of people in prison in America also come from one race too....and we aren't going there.

Poverty begets crime.....young, old, black, white, broken home or not....poor people statistically will commit crimes in a higher percentage....regardless of whether they are from a broken home or not.

I think you are insulting to anyone that was raised in a broken home with your comments and your crappy attitude.

Apropos of nothing: Don't try to teach a pig to sing. It won't work, and it annoys the pig.

I have a question. If dringking Water while you eat isn't a good idea because it fills you up too quickly, then why wouldn't that be a good strategy if you hit a plateau and aren't losing weight?

Drinking Water while you eat is not a good idea because it pushes the food through your pouch quicker and therefore you do not feel full as soon and are hungry again much sooner.

Why fight about parenting! This is not the topic here is it! Start another thread for that who has time to waste reading that if your not interested...quote]

Sunsett is right. This discussion has nothing to do with the Lap Band and needs to be taken to Rants and Raves or the Lounge.

It is disrespectful to Libra, whose thread this is, and I apologize for my part in hijacking it.

If someone wants to start a thread IN AN APPROPRIATE FORUM about good parenting and bad kids, that would be fine. Maybe the Mods could even move the relevant posts from this thread to a new one. Is that possible, Mods?

You are right! Let`s just not raise kids anymore. They can do it all alone. Don`t get invloved in your kids lives. They will be OK. If they do screw up we will just blame the kids for the lack of guidance we have given them. We can still bring kids into the world but lets forget about the hard job of parenting them.

Let`s do everything we can to eliminates these myths from society

-you are a reflection of your parents

-the apple doesnt fall far from the tree

-like father like son

-The calf usually resembles the cow

Also, Let`s forget about these quotes as well

" Proverbs 13:24 says, “If you refuse to discipline your children, it proves you don't love them; if you love your children, you will be prompt to discipline them.” Children who grow up in undisciplined households feel unwanted and unworthy. They lack direction and self-control, and as they get older they rebel and have little to no respect for any kind of authority, including God's. “Discipline your children while there is hope. If you don't, you will ruin their lives”

Let`s also forget this parenting tip

“Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are away on a journey, when you are lying down and when you are getting up again. Tie them to your hands as a reminder, and wear them on your forehead. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates” (Deuteronomy 6:7-9)

JUST REMEMBER IT`S NOT THE PARENTS FAULT!! IT`S THE FAULT OF THE YOUNG CHILD. HE/SHE SHOULD KNOW RIGHT FROM WRONG WITHOUT THE PARENT TEACHING THEM.

Mountaindont....

Surely your parents raised you to be courteous, did they not? Please start a new thread in Rants and Raves forum and I will be happy to discuss/debate this with you further, as I'm sure others will be, too.

Newsho...

Please see my previous post. This thread was started by Libra and we have hijacked it shamelessly. We need to either move this discussion to the Rants and Raves forum or get back on topic.

I agree. Please STOP the off-topic dispute about parenting on this thread. It's easy enough to start a new thread if you want to carry on this asinine, point-by-point debate.

But, everyone needs to stop hiding behind their parents, childhood or upbringing as an excuse for why they do drugs, alcohol or crime

Or overeating.

OMG! I am SO tired of hearing about how bad children from single parent homes turn out. People are either good parents or they are not regardless of their marital status. How dare you assume that two parents turn out better kids than parents who are going it alone (by choice or not).

AND...I think that many of the problems blamed on single parents are actually more closely correlated with poverty for whatever reason. Most single parents are women and most women fair very badly financially after a divorce.

It truly amazes me that what starts out as a news report blows up into debate about our society. Didn't anyone ever learn to "agree to disagree" and move on? Some opinions cannot be changed.

So....how bout that Sharon Osbourne? Wonder what the "whole" story is?

Good try, Libra! I wonder if she would respond if we wrote to her website on behalf of us bandsters, er and future bandsters.

ok, um, just to bring this back around full circle...

I was just watching Matt Lauer interview SHaron on TODAY and he said "you also talked about your gastric bypass surgery (in your book) and you are thinking of reversing that surgery", and Sharon nods and says '"yes".

What is the deal? DID she have bypass -- why didn't she correct him? So weird and annoying. They are totally different surgeries and people seem to lump it all together. She needs to represent her bandster brethren a bit better.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
