Ok Ladies Level With Me Here ... Gas?

Recommended Posts

There is a lot of talk about gas immediately post op. Are we talking like embarrassing flatulence? Some mild burping? scale of 1-10 how bad was this? I'm sure that post op it will be the last thing I care about - in fact I will prob want to due to discomfort from what i am reading - but right now I have some anxiety thinking about passing gas in front of people - or within ear shot lol!

I have same concern. Heck, I can barely go #1 in a public bathroom. farting within a mile of others is not possible - at least on purpose. ;-)

I have said this before on this forum :) The BEST advise I was given was... NEVER EVER trust a fart!

A liquid diet changes everything!!! Sharts happen. lol

It gets better when you get on solids. I luckily didn't have much of a problem with gas. My belly made a ton of noise! It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be :)

I was wondering the same, who knows how bad it is, I've mixed emotions. Embarrassment and then also hoping to fart AWAY

Lol!!!! Sharts were a bad problem for me during my first week. While I am only beginning my second week now, they are gone. I have occasional gas but not nearly as much as I did in week one.

It was the worst in the hospital and yea you will want to fart and burp. While I was embarrassed at first my nurses cheered me on. You need to get it out.

In my case, it wasn't gas in the intestines producing farting, but gas in the stomach/sleeve that caused quite a bit of pain. Gas-X strips helped with that though.

lol @ shafts happen!!! Well I'm on my second week and gas is minimal. But, right after surgery I had a very painful gas bubble that stayed on my chest. It would not move until I was able to start walking. So, walk it out is my suggestion. I had it for at least 24 hours, but once it starts moving you'll be fine.

Should we be bringing an air freshener with us to the hospital? Lol Seriously though.

BWUHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAAA!!!

I laughed so hard I dropped my iPod, & cackled into my ribs trying to pick it up! And had to avoid the convo with my kids...who I'm sure would found the advice just as useful. Hahaha

After surgery you will have gas...walking does help it out. When I finally relieved my gas in the hospital, I didn't think it was gonna stop! I was in the bathroom & I thank GOD I was in a private room. I laughed so hard & I thought it was never gonna end. But once I finished, I felt soooo much better!

You ladies are so silly!! But fun!! :-) i never has stinky gas. I had TERRIBLE gas in my left shoulder joint and under my clavical. It was bad. Walking helped it a bit. But nothing from my tummy or bowels.

My gas pain was in my left shoulder and gas x strips really helped. No burping and a bit of farting but no need for an air freshener. :) I for sure did not fart in front of anyone.....but.....week two I learned YOU NEVER TRUST A FART!!! I just threw those underwear out....oi.

I have yet to have gas problems from below, but I cannot stop burping! In the hospital any time I'd try to answer a nurse I'd burp mid sentence. My mom thinks its hilarious and keeps commenting on what a lady I am...I heard her in her sleep in the hospital! Toot town. The nurses heard too lol

For me it wasn't overly loud or smelly (sorry - couldn't think of a nicer way to say it) but there was a lot of flatuence, a bit of burping. I still have a lot of flatuence and the burping is only when I eat. The farting is really annoying!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
