Hello Forum

My name is Denise, I am 45 years old and I live in MD. I have just joined this forum to learn more about my gastric sleeve process and to get help and give help on this journey. I am almost in my 2 week post op and things are moving good but slow. I had a rough time after surgery because I was a high risk patient. What I mean by this is that I was diagnosed with systemic lupus over 14 years ago(which has been in remission, praise GOD) and I have a high risk for blood clots. I had to have a intravenous filter put in before my surgeon would touch me. After surgery I had terrible gas. It was so bad that the doctors were concerned so they ordered a upper GI and the gas was extremely normal but abnormal because of so much. I have been able to keep small liquids down but the calcium citrate liquid gave me diarrhea for 2 days. Still trying to find the chewable wafers. The main complaint I have right now is the soreness and terrible lower back pain. First I thought it was the hospital bed but now I beg to differ. I have my first post op appt on this Monday November 19th, so I will see where it goes. I am excited about the new process, but honestly the Vitamins and diet regimen is extremely overwhelming. It's a lot to learn and sometimes I feel like I don't know what I am doing. Today is my last day of liquids thank GOD and tomorrow I start pureed food so we will see how it goes. As far as the surgery it went well and I had the best care at John Hopkins Bayview Medical Clinic. For all of you that have had this procedure I pray all goes well.

Thanks

Denise

Hi Thanks for answering. I am glad to see things are going well with you. I start my pureed foods tomorrow. My nutritionist gave me meal samples and ideas such as: baby food, chicken, lobster, crab meat along with Soups. I tried the Protein Shake but got terrible diarrhea I am going to try again today. The Calcium was liquid and started the diarrhea roller coaster so I ordered some chewable wafers from off line. So we will see. How is your weight lost coming.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
