I'm currently waiting for insurance approval, I just finished my 6 month qualification process. I'm Liz, I started a Vlog on YouTube about my journey. I'm 25 from Indiana. Feel free to message me. So happy you've made the choice to get healthy!

Welcome...

I am pre-op...started this WLS journey in July. I just finished my CPAP study on Halloween and go to the Pulmonary Specialist today. I just got my surgery date which is January 21st. So happy because I can't believe it is finally going to be here. So far on this journey I have lost 44 pounds by cutting out all processed and sugary foods and exercising for 45 minutes four times a week. I have found an abundant amount of information on this forum as well as many great people to chat with. Good luck to you :) !!

I also had my VSG on 9/17/12 and I am down 37 lbs. I was not a revision but this was the best decision of my life. My doctor told me that after 1500 VSG's not ONE person wanted it reversed. That is was convinced me that it was okay it was not reversible. Also I talked to a friend who had it done and she told me, "ya know when we eat donuts, we need 3 to feel satisfied?, after surgery one or half of one and you feel completly full and happy." That is all I wanted to be a normal person who can still eat food everyone else eats but can eat normal people size protions. I am very pleased with it.

Hi rx! There is a forum at this site that is all about band to sleeve revisions. Many good informative posts there about this part of the challenge.

In summary, sleeve is much much much better then the band. I have had great results.

The risks of the sleeve are higher at the beginning (ie leaks, excessive bleeding) and those risks are higher for a revision. However, after the initial healing period, the complications are so much less with the sleeve. No vomiting, no slipping, etc etc - and the best part, the weight loss is much better with the sleeve!

Good luck to all the newbies and to those about to be sleeved...I am one year out, blogged each Sunday about my journey and have had a fantastic ride....like many others, it was the best thing I ever did. Just had my one year check up today and passed with flying colors...I rarely see anything here that is not positive. Once in a while, but the majority of people are so happy with the sleeve.

I'm a revision too. Actually had my band out in April though. Just got my approval and date - January 14! I had a pouch dilation and I'm having the same struggle about not being able to get my stomach back, but I'm just reading, reading, reading right now! good luck!

Might be too soon to ask...but how are all the new patients doing? I just had my one year check up in Frankfurt and those first days exactly a year ago came flooding back to me; a weird time for sure, but exciting too. Hope you are all recovering just fine and check in when you can!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
