I just wanted to pout about my weight loss being so slow. It seems like as soon as I got a fill I lost a few pounds then it just stopped. So I just wanted to boohoo about it cuz I am having a feel sorry for myself day. Its like you lose eating and you are supposed to get being thinner in return but you dont or you dont get what you expect so the reward is so far out of reach its hard to keep your will power going day to day. I want to run out and get a giant bucket of chocolate icecream but I wont, I will just sit and mope instead. My doctors are all excited if I lose 4 pounds in a month but that seems discouraging to me.:cry

Average weight loss to be expected with the band is 1-2lbs/week. So 4 lbs per month, as much as we hate it, is on target.

Think of it this way...even if you stay at 4 lbs/month, in a year, you've lost 48 lbs. That's nothing to sneeze at.

But instead of moping or going to get ice cream, why not do something positive? Go for a walk or bicycle ride. Garden, rake leaves, etc. Not only will it make you feel better, it'll burn some calories. :P

I sure understand what you are feeling, but really try hard to beat those feelings back! They will undo your best efforts if you let them get to you! 4-5 pounds a month is really good, and expecting anything different is just setting yourself up for self-sabotage.

Another thing to psych yourself up for are the plateaus. There will most likely be some long periods of time where there will be NO weight loss (measured by the scale). Be sure you are taking measurements with a tape measure. Also realize that you are probably carrying extra pounds in places you don't measure (neck, hands, feet, back, etc.) Some of the long plateaus I've been through have also been times that other people have noticed more than ever how much weight I was losing. Ironic, but true.

Hang in there, it's gonna happen for you!

Also, why not go in for another fill so you feel the restriction you're looking for to get you through the next plateau?

I'm having the same problems. I exercise, eat 900 - 1100 calories a day. I drink Water and have only lost 20 lbs in 3 mo's. The first 10 were the 1st month. I'm going to see an Endocronolist next week.

I have only lost 43 pounds since March, so you're not alone. But I thank God every day for each and every pound. That's more than I was able to do before the band.

Have you exercised at all?

Just a thought.

If you try one workout in the morning before Breakfast and one workout at night before dinner . Eat every 3hr in the day, and drink your Water. Just try this for one week and you will see the weight come off.

Gummi -

I am with you. It's been slow going for me, too - but exercise has been helping in recent days. Walk the mall, park farther from the office door, whatever. Every little bit helps.

Hugs and good luck!

Beachee girl, would be curious what tests the endocrinologist does - you can pm if you want or email me at thefacilitator@hotmail.com. I'm not losing at all and just ordered medifast for two weeks. I think i can stand it for at least that long if I see some weight coming off. I was hoping the band would stop me from 'dieting again' but that's not to be. I've never done medifast so its probably one of the few diets left. I hope it works soooo bad.

As for exercise I used to do almost nothing at all (which I am sure helped me get fat) so I have increased my activity alot compared to what it was. When I would try to go for walks My knee would actually have the sensation of popping out of soccet and I would fall on the ground in pain til it felt like it went back in. Same with my hips. Totally embarracing when your walking down the road. Since I live in such a small town there is not a whole lot of options for me. I am not really one for exersize tapes I just wont do those no matter what. I was getting ready to join our local Gym about 2 weeks ago and as I went down to sign up guess what?? they are closing down from lack of buisness, so now I am totally frusterated because I knew I would do that. So I am suck with riding my bike here and there which (excuse my french) rides right up my ass even with a bigger seat and that hurts btw and walking around with a bad knee and hip. I guess I need to just deal with the pain and walk more often if i wanna lose weight faster but I would almost rather eat 200 calories a day then have to do that. How bad is that.. Yeah I know . =/...

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
