First Protein Shake

Recommended Posts

I've just had my first ever Protein shake, and I'm very impressed!

I chose the chocolate variety, but have ordered strawberry too.

I'm thinking I might put some ice in next time, and this will keep it cool and also thin it out a bit, as it seems to get thicker the longer it lies, I'm only 20 days out, so it takes me a while to get one down me..

Up until now I have been having Slimfast shakes... I though that would be fine, but seems theres too many carbs in them - unfortunately I've got a small stockpile, but luckily my daughter is doing Slimfast, so they won't go to waste.

Slimfast wa not an option for a Proteins.....

Hi,

I didn't realise that it wasn't the 'perfect' choice, and it was on the list I got from the hospital as options... I didn't recognise any of the other ones mentioned, and as I was only handed this information by leaflet once I was in the hospital, my only option was to ask my family to get what was available in our local stores here in UK. I had to send away for the Protein powder I got - there isn't a great selection in stores here - not that I know of anyway.

I'm learning though :)

Hey..... I'm new this forum and had my surgery in September! On my list, slimfast was not an option for me! I just ordered some Protein mix from UNJURY....the vanilla flavor because it offers 20 grams for each scoop which I need 60 a day. I tried others and they didn't agree with me.... All the response was great and one comment said it tasted like a Mcdonald milkshake! So what the heck when you can't indulge.... (lol)! I'm learning too..... Hope we can keep in touch on our progress!

They do have a Slimfast "high Protein creamy chocolate" variety that has 20g of protein for 180 calories (and 4g total carb for those counting such things) - that's not a bad exchange if you can find that variety. Further, being as much a Meal Replacement drink as a Protein Shake, it does seem to have a broader nutritional profile than the typical protein shake, so that wouldn't be a bad way to go if you like them. The standard slimfast is only 10g protein and 190 calories, which is harder to stomach when adding things up.

Right now.... I'm still sipping and back on Clear Liquids because of dehydration!

I know that we in the UK had the low carb version of slimfast for a while, but that was some years back - i haven't seen it around for a long time, and it isn't showing as an option on our Slimfast UK site either - pity, as it would be more readily available..

I'm sorry to hear this - How long are you expecting to be back on the clear liquids?

Hopefully not too long! I have gotten my appetite back and I have been out about 7 weeks now! Holding liquids down and trying to transition to soft food but slowly though.... but of course I'm ready to be in the right phase I suppose to be in so I can taste something like grilled fish, tuna salad or chicken salad! I know it is a process but I just have to go through with it!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
