Scared As Hell Of Excess Skin!

Recommended Posts

I was a size 32 or 4x and I'm in a 16 and I'm looking for size 10/12. I'm pretty muscular, with big thighs and a booty (just my body shape). It's an amazing feeling so far!

When you say muscular, is that your build or did you work at it?

Oh, I'm with you... I just bought a bunch of creams and I'm planning on working out once I'm cleared. Loose skin freaks me out. To be honest, I'm afraid my husband won't be attracted to me if I have it. He hasn't been negative or anything... but, I'm still worried.

I agree with you about the skin. I think my husband would be grossed out by it which would make my insecurities increase. I am hoping that it doesn't get that bad so as of right now I am putting myself on a pre surgery plan. I already mentioned that I was starting to tighten but I have been lazy. I need to get serious. I don't want to see the skin either so I need to do what gotta do.

Lol, some people post while at the hospital!

Iplan on being a YouTube video loser. I want to be able to see my progress so I guess I understand why people post at the hospital

Has anyone looked at YouTube videos to see the progress of some of the people who had the surgery. Some of them look really good while others unfortunately have the dreaded skin.

You know, I love watching those videos! They inspire so much. If you do become one, I'd like to follow you on there. I am too shy to do the videos but I will probably post before and after pictures and then put them on youtube. The only thing is that I look so different when I am thin and when I am heavy that nobody ever believes my pictures. lol

Come on! If i can do it you can too! I hate taking pictures but i think it will be a tool to remember where i started. Its not like i will wear a thong or anything. Ugggghhh i just pictured how that would look. I am not trying to scare anyone lol.

This is a small concern for me as well. I asked my wife what would be worse, fat, or loose skin. She didn't even hesitate... loose skin. I'm not going to focus on that right now though. My surgery is likely to be in early January. I figure that while I'm recovering, I'll look more closely, but excercise and perhaps some creams or lotions, or even Vitamins will help mitigate the issue. If all else fails, there's always surgery, but that wouldn't be my desired way to go.

My advice: take it one step at a time. Put the first thing first. When that's over, focus on the next step.

Be well...

My husband told me the SAME thing and he is a big guy. He likes my curves and even likes my size (I'm the first big girl he ever dated). I'm tall (almost 5'11") so I worry what that sagging skin would look like on someone my height. I've seen a few videos on YouTube but all the women were shorter than me.

I have and you're right, some people look like they were never over weight and others make me feel so sad for them because of how sad they are with their skin. This is a major concern of mine too. Not enough to stop me from pursuing surgery but enough to give me pause.

I know that plastic surgery would be out of the question for me. It's so expensive and I couldn't afford to take the time off work.

The doc office was telling ppl at the meeting that insurance company's don't cover the removing of skin as a cosmetic procedure however if it us medically needed they will. She said to the group if their is anything bumps boils etc go to see the main doc in let them Note everything every-time it happens b/c than it is Likely it will be covered. She told us see has never seen a case where it didn't get covered. Especially b/c of the fact that we are having the type of procedure we are.

I asked my wife what would be worse, fat, or loose skin. She didn't even hesitate... loose skin. I'm not going to focus on that right now though.

I'm sure that her answer was contextual. Did you say something like, "honey, which do you think looks worse on me, extra fat, or loose skin?". She gave you a quick honest answer.

But what if you had asked "honey, would you rather I risk developing heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, etc., or have some loose skin?"

Obviously, your wife would want you to live a long healthy life with her, extra skin be damned. The health benefits of your weight loss are INFINITELY more important, long lasting and satisfying than the small cosmetic drawback of excess skin (which can be improved with exercise, good skin maintenance and if necessary, cosmetic surgery).

Your attitude about not focusing on that right now is spot on!

Keep your eye on the "prize" and don't worry about possible negative outcomes that are related (such as the skin thing). You KNOW you will lose the weight, be more healthy, more fit and increase your longevity as well as your day-to-day quality of life. You MAY (or may not) develop some excess skin along the way.

If you do, you can deal with it once you've reached your weight loss goal. It will be "Phase Two" of your transformation!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
