February 2013 Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

I am from Montreal, Quebec and I am doing my surgery in February 2013. I haven't decided my date yet because I was hoping to maybe find a Buddy since I would be going alone. I am 20 years old and I am 5'5'' and my weight is 277 Lbs. I will be doing my surgery in Mexico, Tijuana with doctor Garcias. So if anyone is interested in being my buddy and going together that would be very awesome.

I'm a February 2013 sleever!! =)

I'm scheduled for Feb. 4-9 with Dr. Lopez. I'll be staying at the Marriott as well. Can't wait!!!

Did you already fill out your paperwork and send it in? Or are you waiting until Friday? Just wondering how things are coming along on your end

No I haven't. Lol. I can't seem to access it. Ir doesn't let me write on it. So I figured I'd take care of all that on Friday with my deposit. What about u?

That's what it did to me! You have to print it out, I think it's 6 pages, fill it out and fax it over. Janese said she sent mine to Dr. Lopez for review and she would get back to me after he looks over it. That's been a few days back or so.

Yeah, I faxed them over last Thursday I think and haven't heard anything back yet. I don't want to constantly annoy Janese about everything because I feel like I'm emailing her too much or something. Lol I just get excited and start thinking of all kinds of stuff.

I am actually between doctor Lopez and Dr Garcia im still not sure... Just that Dr Garcia has a lot of comments but I couldnt find a lot on Dr Lopez so im not sure yet. But Rudy from Alighterme told me that she would prefer going with Dr Lopez since he does it with someone else... (2 heads perform better than 1 =p) But im still not sure... I havent booked my date or faxed my papers yet because I prefer doing my blood test here than to have a surprise when I get to Mexico... Cause the last blood test I did, I didnt have any kind of illness but since then I have gotten bigger so we never know... I just want to be 100% prepared..

I'm going March 10th-15th. I picked Lopez because I haven't read any complaints about him, my coordinator says he has done over 3,500 sleeves and has never had a leak, plus he has his wife who is also a great surgeon. Garcia is part of his team as well. I've heard good things about Garcia too though!

I was like you, I didn't see many comments on Lopez in the beginning when I joined this site so I wasn't even considering him at first. But as I did my research, and I talked with a lady on here who went with Lopez, she has said nothing but wonderful things about him. For his price and experience, I'm going with him.

I had my surgery with Dr Lopez on 10-10-12. I met two fabulous women that did too. We all met in the van when Abraham picked us up. You will all stay at the Marriott. It's super boring, minimal TV, food is awful too. Bring some broth or cubes with you, also Crystal light packets!!!!!

I was alone, and so was another girl. We hit it off so well they let us room together in the hospital. The second day after your surgery you will be itching to get back to the hotel. After the first day at the hotel, you will be sooo over it, and ready to go home. We didn't hurt at all, just the gas pains.

But, there were four of us at Mi hospital, and we are own support group. We talk every single day, off and on all day long. You will fall in love with your sister sleevers!!( or brother) we were all women, and had so much in common.

Dr Lopez is wonderful! All of the Dr's there are. Go with your gut... No pun intended:)

Janese is awesome, and loves helping her people. I worried about bugging her too, but don't! She would tell me over and over that I wasn't bugging her. Trust me, she's amazing!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
