Anyone else nervous about tomorrow? We're going to my bff's house and she is an AMAZING cook who makes everything from scratch! Yikes... :(

I know what you mean. I'm cooking, but I know I'll want to eat & eat. My plan is to use a tiny plate and put a tiny spoonful of everything on my plate, then eat real slow.

Uh, yeah. My cousin has a 22lb turkey for 5 of us. Overkill much? Maybe I should have brought some tupperware for leftovers.....

I have to say that I LOVE your profile quote about getting your stomach ripped out lol!!

Yeah I kept dreaming about having some sweet potatoes turkey and green Beans until I remembered I can only have a quarter teaspoon of each lol

I do, too. I've been drinking warm herbal tea & sobe life Water. I cam drink plain water in the morning.

I will have to try the life water. That sounds good! I've also been adding the diet snapple peach tea packets. Yum!

I've always hated plain Water, it's like medicine to me! I use Crystal Light packs religiously.

Sometimes out of the blue, I really miss eating. We're headed out of town and just passed a favorite restaurant. I pictured myself eating a big, nice meal and miss that.

I know why I did this and I'm committed to it, but sometimes it's really hard. :(

I get that feeling too.. last night my husband brought home hotwings. I use to eat 16 but he bought my 5. I could only eat 1 and I picked the skin off! That was sooo weird.

Oh (I am so happy I found this forum!!! I am an Oct 15th sleever as well and do not know anyone else who had a VSG so this is a wonderful thread!!! First of all am 66 years old and am a bit jealous of the young people who have made the change with so much of their lives ahead of them but I think as long as I am breathing I can move forward to better life. I have spent my career as a profesional food critic and love to eat, so committing to the sleeve was a choice I did not make lightly. So far here are the good things: my surgeon was very good and my scars have totally disappeared, no complications or pain after I left the hospital (1 day). I have lost weight and a few jean sizes. I look better. Some bad stuff is I am also having problems getting all the Protein and Water in. My pouch is tiny and the few times I ate the whole cup of yogurt too fast I started to drool which was very unpleasant. It is hard to undo a lifetime of bad habits. I am fighting mental hunger more than physical hunger which feels very odd. I keep looking at 2 ounces of baby food and then at my huge self and can't compute that this can keep me going.

Don't worry you will do great :*) Just remember to take it easy when eating just enjoy the 2oz you are eating.

I'm Oct. 16th. It's been good but I developed reflux.....Uggghhh. and sometimes I'm afraid to eat because I'm afraid it will get stuck and slime or vomit!! I am happy with progress so far, I'm looking good! Trying to keep muscle tone.

I'm going to try on some old clothes today and see if I can fit into anything new. I'm running out of clothes, presurgery clothes getting too loose and don't look good!

Hey Y'all!

I go back to the doc on Tuesday and I'll find out how much I've lost so far. For some reason, I'm VERY nervous.

I know I've lost inches bc my clothes are definitely baggier, and I can now fit into some of my clothes a size down. But I'm worried that I will not show it on the scale.< /p>

I realize that makes little sense, but it has me stressed. I need the validation of having pounds gone and I'm worried that I won't get it. At 4 weeks out, I had only lost 13lbs and I was disappointed in that. I don't care what anyone says, it's IMPOSSIBLE not to compare yourself to others!

Seeing others losing so much more than me really frustrates and pisses me off bc I'm doing everything I'm supposed to do!

I agree... I was sleeved on Oct 15 and only down 20# since surgery. I have been on this stall for what seems like 2 weeks. Has me worried too. I was weighing myself frequently at first but when I stopped losing weight I was really discouraged. I hope I will start losing soon my nut said to wait until 8 weeks post op to work out and its killing me I want to start working out soon.

I was very worried at first too! I lost 20lbs of Water in the first 8 days and then nothing for over 2 weeks. This may be TMI, but it wasn't until after my first menstral cycle that my weight started coming off again. It went from 266 to 255 in less than 5 days since then. Not sure if that has anything to do with it but what people say about a stall is SO TRUE. I was really depressed over it since I emptied our saving to have this surgery and my husband was losing more weight than me just regular dieting and I was also following all of the rules. Keep it up! It kicked in again for me and I pray it will for you too!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
