New To The Group.. Looking For Support..

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone

My bame is Marilyn and I am new to this group and the site as well. I am 33 years old and have been diagnosed with PCOS since 2009. I never had the issues of missing periods or heavy periods, but I had and still have issues with gaining excessive amount of weight, hair loss and facial Hair growth. I do laser treatments for the facial hair growth and I am loving it because it has helped me drastically. I still have some growth, but I do not have to be in the mirror everyday. I get a touch up maybe every 3-4 months. It's well worth it for me.

As for why I want surgery now, well it took me a long time to finally come to that decision. When I went to see my OB and got on the scale and it read 241 pounds, I literally cried. I knew I was heavy but never imagined I weighed that much. I was already having self esteem issues and not liking my body, that just made it worse. I talked to my OB about how I felt and she was the one who recommended me to weight management group I am currently going to. I told myself I had to try.

I have finished all of my preop appointments and got approval for surgery this week. Unfortunately I still have to wait to have surgery done because my surgeon is booked until January 2013. I can't not deny that I am scared but I know that at first it will be hard but I have to keep focus on the bed result.

I am so glad I have found this site. I hope to be able to form new friendships and get as much information as I can of the dos and dont's as well as maybe some advice.

Marilyn

Hi Marilyn, welcome to the group. I am fairly new here myself but there is tons of information and support. There are a lot of great people here and they don't mind if you vent when your feeling down or praise yourself when you have NSVs....it's great to have so much support when you're going through something like this, especially if you don't really have support from those closest to you. Good luck and enjoy your journey!

Marilyn, WELCOME! This is the place to be if you want support, information or just to vent. Are you on a cancellation list? It happens occasionally. Just ask.

Again, welcome.

Thank you Traci. I am hoping to get some support especially since I dont have family where I currently live at. Everyone is far away and I know this is going to be a stressful journey.

Thank you. I am not a cancelation list. I did not think about that. I will definitely call Monday to see if they have one. I was hoping to have surgery on the beginning of December since I was done with my other appointments since end of September. Have you had your surgery?

My surgery is November 12! Apparently, the staff likes me. They squeezed me in to see the surgeon and bumped up my date. I should have been scheduled for late December but I am traveling to Viet Nam in March and I was so worried that I wouldn't be ready. I go all of the support group meetings. I think that helps.

Hi I am also knew here and my surgery is set for 11/19. My story is alot like yours. I am 35 single. I also have facial Hair growth which I hate and was thinking about getting lasered so I don't have to shave anymore. If you need someone to talk to I am a good listener even though I am just learning myself. Good luck!

Wow.. That's great. I was hoping to have my surgery in December because I was done with all my appointments since end of September, but the nurse says that all appointments are booked. :-( I will call on Monday and see I there is a cancelation list. I didn't want to have to still be in recovery for my Bday which is in February. I haven't been to a group meeting yet. I actually have two coworkers who are in the same process as me an we hope to have surgery near the same time.

Hi.. Nice to meet you. I'm Marilyn. I highly recommend laser treatments. I started laser treatments in 2008 and love it. I go to Ideal Image an they had a payment plan that they worked for me. I'm a full member now and whenever I want a touch up I just set an appointment. I used to have to be in front of the mirror in the morning and at night. Now I don't have to pluck or shave. If I get a treatment say today, I won't have growth for like 2-3 months. It made my new Hair growth very very thin and not coarse. I can not lie and say it doesn't hurt, because it hurts a little. But I will go threw that pain of I do not have to be plucking everyday. :-) I'm a good listener myself, if you like to chat. Keep me posted. :-)

Hi Marilyn! I also have PCOS. I'm 36 and was sleeved on Aug. 6th of this year. I know what a pain PCOS can be. I haven't had to deal with the Hair growth, but definitely all the other issues associated with PCOS. I was scared that this surgery wouldn't even help with the weight. Man was I wrong. Surgery date, my weight was 267, today, 11 weeks post op, my weight is 215! I feel soooo different and I've had to cycles since surgery. They're usually every 3-4 months apart. Follow the rules for this surgery. The first few weeks are the most difficult. Get through those and the light is on the other side! Lol. I was worried that I'd be stuck eating turkey the rest of my life, but I can eat and tolerate ANYTHING, at least anything I've tried so far. I'm still under restriction on what I eat until the 3 month mark on Nov. 1st. But so far, everything works. It just makes me eat smaller portions. I think you're making the right move. I wish I had done this sooner! It has improved EVERY aspect of my life!

Wow.. I am so happy to hear that things are going rear for you. It's even more exciting to know the change that I can look forward to. I have heard and read from several people that they wished they would of done it sooner. I can't not deny that I am scared because I have never had surgery. But I am trying to keep focus and think of my overall goal. I just want to be healthier, feel good about myself and enjoy the rest of my life.. :-)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
