I am surprised at how fast people are able to go back to work. I am kind of a whimp, I am hoping to be off as long as I can. I am wondering if the recovery relates to age... Glad you are doing okay!

I agree with you lol! I have low tolerant of pain. One of my coworkers came back to work after a few weeks and fainted. She said she was weak and so tired. Everybody is different and some heal faster then others. I am planning on 12 weeks at least.

Hmm' date=' my dr. is saying I can go back in 4 days. Surgery on Wed back to work on Monday.

I kinda want this, cause 1, I don't have any vacation time, and 2, I don't want anyone at work to know.

Only my supervisor knows I'll be doing something medical. Everyone else I'll just be on vacation.

Hope I can manage.[/quote']

Wow when is your surgery. I was still in hospital at 5 days out

Yep I hear you. Doc told me two weeks to recover and 2 to acclimate to some food. She is brilliant. Got bored by the end but after one day of work I would gladly take another off <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> week that is. Things getting better for you? I struggle with Protein - bu I hate Protein shakes as well. I do drink one for Breakfast and I may start adding another just to aSsure I get it in.

Yes things are better for me, still get that stuck feeling w/ eating @ times & hopefully soon it will be completely gone but getting my protein I have to try & get that together..

I'm glad I've had this time off, it does take time to try & figure this new tummy out..

Wow there is a big difference in how much time people take off. I have so many questions. I see the PA next week.na dhope to get some information. I first need to find out if they will do the sleeve instead of bypass. I hate t not knowing so much about what will happen. I have been on a six month supervised diet and haven't lost any weight this month and hoping I didn't gain back what I have lost. i am afraid I am messing up my change for insurance to pay for the surgery by not being better at the dietl It's frustrating... and I know so many people on here have the same issues. I quess in relation to time off work I am hoping I can get the food thing figured out before I go back to work. that is another thing I am not sure of, if I can take short term disability and how much money I will get when I am off work.

It amazes me that people are able to take so much time off my doctor said I should be fine in a week but he put me off for four weeks and he said he never gives anyone more than a month off.. I probably a do a week and half to two weeks just to be safe but I have a desk job so I'm not to worried .. My surgery is set for mon oct 15 so we shall see praying for a speedy recovery rather I'm at work or not!

I work from home, so I took vacation Thursday (surgery) and Friday. Came home Saturday and back to work on Monday. If I were to do it again I would have taken a week off. I was skatter-brained most of the week and may have drifted off during a conference call.

I'm back this coming Monday but I took s full 8 weeks off!! The first three were very difficult for me. The by the 6th week I was feeling somewhat normal with getting enough fluids and energy. I took the remaining two weeks for myself. Started the gym, a healthy diet, spent lots of time with my son and the rest of my family. All things that are very hard to do with work. But I made a promise to myself. No more!!! I'll work but fit in m diet, working out and most of all my family

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
