Just curious--I'm about three weeks post surgery and I'm at about 1200 calories per day. What about you? How many do you generally eat? Thanks!:hungry:

I'll be 4 weeks post op on Tuesday. I started soft solid foods and I'm eating more calories now. I'm about 900 calories per day. Before I was eating 500 calories per day on mushies. I think my weight will come off faster now that I added more calories to my diet.

Good luck.

About 1500 calories a day. I dont know quite how I get away with so much and keep losing but I"m milking it for all I can. I am VERY active though, I run regularly and also do a lot of walking, plus running round after the kids etc - I dont work and am at home with my kids and also attending uni. I hardly ever sit down really.

I usually eat around 900-1200 each day. I find when I go below 800 I don't lose and over 1500 I usually gain....I am sure I couldnt' eat more than 1000 calories and lose if I didn't exercise every day.

1200-1300 seems to be what works best for me. But as long as I stay under 1500 I seem to continue to lose.

I try to eat 900-1200cals a day. On good days I have a bit over 800cals and on bad days way more than 1200cals I would say something around 1600cals.

I feel bad even with eating 900cals cause my doc said I should be eating way less. She thinks I can exist on 600cals. Sorry cant do that. But I try to make healthy food choices.

This was an interesting thread. I have been posting my calories on a little software program called, "Diet Power." It's a great little program, I can track Water, calories and exercise. I am usually getting around 900 calories. I walk several miles a day which subtracts around 220 calories for a net of 680 calories. I am only losing about 2 pounds a week on this amount. It is very frustrating! I'm wondering if I should be eating a little more? (The computer program says I'm not eating enough). I don't feel like I'm getting much support from the doctor. Oh well!

You are eating about the same amt of calories I was eating and I wasn't losing as fast as I am now when I eat around 1000-1200. I think with exercise your body needs just a tad more to keep your metabolism revved up and ready to lose. I noticed I lost more when I added 200-300 more calories a day. On my day that I take off and don't work out though I scale it back to around 800 or I will gain..:)

I'm like you Eficka...I'm usually about 800 - 1000 but on a bad day I'm much more. My 4th fill just kicked in and I haven't been able to eat much the last few days. I'm finally having to learn to eat the "banded way". Small bites, slow and chew chew chew. My weight loss has been very slow since being banded because I never had any restriction.

Ive never really kept track of it.. i figured as long as i eat the right foods and balance them .. the band restricts the amount of it.. though if i "splurge" on something not so good.. i watch the portion size.

Liz,

I totally agree. Last week I gained 2 lbs. I was eating 500-600 calories per day. I couldn't believe it when I saw the gain. I asked myself how could that be. I'M NOT EATING! I think that was my problem. I'm now on soft solid foods and I've lost the 2 plus another pound. I think I will see a better result now that I added more calories. I'm not complaining at all. I'm down a little over 15 and Oct. 5th will be a month. Best of luck to you.

It's great to hear what other's are doing. I talked to a gal at Bariatric Support International who said that alot of lapband doctors don't give good advice about diet and calorie intake and that it is left to the invidual to figure out. I've had some general guidelines like eat protien first and then vegetable. Never eat over 1/2 cup. I would just like to maximize what I am doing to get the best results. Any one know of a book on this just for lap banders?

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
