What finance options have you all done? What type of loan should I look into? Not wanting to refinance our home to do home equity :(

Any suggestions for KY Lenders??

Thanks

I had no choice but to go into my 401k  I filled for a hardship withdrawal, for uncovered medical expanse.

I didn't finance. I saved for about a year and will drive my Chevy for another year (you can do it baby!) while I researched and tried one more time to lose weight and keep it off. I lost 15 and gained 30 back. :-(

Why don't you want to do a 2nd? If not enough equity, I understand, but a second or even better, a line of credit:

  1. You will find no other loan cheaper
  2. You only have to pay the interest portion if you need some extra cash one month
  3. You get to deduct the interest on your taxes
  4. After you have it paid off, you always have that available

Sweet deal, to me

I went to Mexico so it only cost me $4500.00 which I put into my 125 Medical Flex account. They take it out of my paychecks but it's interest and tax free! You have to have the doctor complete a letter of medical nessecity (sp) form but the IRS does allow WLS under the plan. Unfortunately, the IRS is lowering the max amt to $2500.00 for 2013 :(

How does this 125 Medical Flex work. My husband's job's website says they have it. But is it just for him or can I use it as his wife? Also, do you have to be at the company for a while, he has been with the company for two months.

Some surgery centers for weight loss surgery actually offer financing. While I am unable to say whether these are the best option, they are an option beyond tapping a 401k or taking out a home equity line of credit. I also am self pay and looking at the amount as an investment. I am choosing the surgery under the assumption that that will avoid/reduce future medical care costs by having the surgery. That was my economic calculation. I wish you great success with your surgery!

@coexist23 - I've never heard of a company that didn't allow Med Flex from the first date of employment and yes it is to cover uninsured medical expenses for your husband and dependents which includes you and your children. You can only enroll once a year during the open enrollment period at his job unless you have a 'qualifying reason' under IRS regs which are usually life changes: death, divorce, marriage, birth, or job change. He should contact his HR dept to get more info.

I actually went through a company called belite weight. The financed me with a down payment and my payments are very small, less than $200 per month. They have surgeons in the US and Mexico but I chose to go to Mexico with Dr Jose Rodriguez. I loved him! I have had no complications and the hospital was awesome. It was right down the street from the US Consulates office. Dr Rodriguez and his staff spoke great English and the hospital was amazing, more of a spa "ish" room than a hospital room. My husband, daughter, mom and her boyfriend all went with me or came to visit and had no problems either. Great experience all around =) Here is the link if you are interested.. http://www.beliteweight.com/ If you have any other questions or want my patient liaison's number just message me! Good luck!!

Just remember to save EVERY receipt pertaining to your surgery... anything over 7.5% of your gross income is deductible on next years tax return... that will help to offset the tax hit you will take for having withdrawn the money..

Ahhh but anything medical, out of pocket that exceeds 7.5% of your gross income is deductible...

Did you get Dr. Almanza to write a letter for you? My PCP would not write one, she wants me to do 12 months diet program. I am going to Dr, Garcia. How much is the limit now? $5,000? You said you got $4,500?

Thank you!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
