Shocked By Sleeve Experience!

Recommended Posts

I had the worst anxiety about getting the sleeve. I have always been nervous by nature and the last three months I spent in a complete state of stress and worry. I just got home from the hospital an hour ago and I feel great! My surgery was on the 27th and they kept me for two nights. Ill admit the first few hours out of surgery were the worst but still tolerable. I was up walking around 2 hours later. It was actually funny because I was walking so much my nurse had to ask me to go back to the room and rest lol! The first few things I tried to swallow hurt but i adjusted when I took smaller sips. I dont know if its a good or bad thing but today I found myself taking regualr drinks of Water with no pain. I really wanted to post this because I was so worried about the pain and problems that can come along with this procedure. Reading others experiences gave me hope :) I really thought I would have a much harder time than I did!

So happy for you. You are one of the blessed and fortunate ones and me as well because I experienced nothing on the negative side of having been sleeved. I was neither nervous or scared about any part of the process. While being rolled back to prep room, I waived good bye with a big smile. I was ready and so glad I did it.

DON'T do it!! You risk leak, perotonitis and death!!! Stay liquid for your 4-6 weeks ! Chew what it is you want and spit it out. Busting the staple line is just not worth it-- however I was self pay so I view it way different.

DON'T be so melodramatic for goodness sake! Each should follow the advise of their own doctors of course-but not everyone's doctor will say liquids for 4-6 weeks. Over the top comments like this will make others panic! If the staple line were that easy to bust this would be a ridiculous operation indeed!!

Hang in there-it'll be worth it!

I had my surgery on the Sept. 24th and am doing well. The first few days were slightly uncomfortable but the pain meds did the trick.

Good luck all....

I hope things keep progressing so well Teatimed!

Astephenson, this has been such a relief! I hope you also have a speedy recovery! I have lost 13lbs in the last five days (insane) and I was able to get 8 off with the pre op diet so I am excited. Only thing is this Clear liquids started taking a toll on me yesterday. I need Protein and Vitamins, im so out of it. Cant wait til this week passes and I can have Protein shakes and start my Vitamin regimine.

TamaraS, I can't believe you are still on liquid only! My doctor has allowed me to eat Cereal and milk in the morning or cream of wheat and creamed Soups for lunch and supper...not great, but a heck of a lot better than just liquid.

Ya I was kind of suprised too. I wish I could atleast have some Liquid Protein. I feel so depleted and fuzzy brained. Im kind of worried about driving myself to my Dr. appoinment tomorrow because of how I feel. My husband insist I stick to the plan but I would really like to intake some type of liquid nutrients.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
