Does Anyone Else Ever Get Really Tired After Eating?

Recommended Posts

It doesn't happen that often, but does happen to me. I think it happen more when I have carbs (specifically potatoes, which I do not have very often).

I mentioned to my Dr. at my 7 wk visit last week. He said it might be dumping syndrome and didn't seem too concerned. I don't have sweats or diahrea (which I read as being dumping symptoms), I just get tired and it subsides after a half hour or so.

When I eat sugar or some other carbs (mostly sugar though) I get super tired for about 20 minutes.

I dont even take a bite of dessert anymore in restaurants cause I want to put my head down and rest and my family thinks its rude...lol

When I eat too much, this happens to me. I just have to lie down and, like you, half an hour later I am fine.

I told my wife this is probably what the whole tiredness after Thanksgiving meals really is about, not the triptophan (sp?) link. I'm guessing that eating too much triggers the body to go down for a bit until it can process the load a bit.

Sounds like a sugar issue. Have you ever tested your blood sugar? If you have assess to a meter, I would take your blood sugar throughout the day and see what it is before and after eating and again an hour after eating. Some people who are insulin resistant will over produce insulin after a meal which causes blood sugar to drop.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
