Hi! I am 2 weeks out and my worst day was the day after surgery but I did have the happy morphine button to help me tremendously. Once they removed the drain, I was so much more comfortable (day 3).

The first week was ok - the only discomfort I had was sitting down, laying down and getting up. It wasn't anything unbearable. I was given Tylenol to relieve some pain and that worked well for me.

My second week was much easier! I've been able to sleep on my side without any discomfort. The only thing is I felt so great that I over did it and am now a little sore from it.

One thing that's been a lifesaver for me is a small pillow to press against my stomach when I have to cough or sneeze - it's a strange feeling (slightly painful) and "holding it in" made it easier. I'd also get clothes that button on the front - easier than pulling a shirt over her head :)

Good luck with your surgery and try not to worry too much - it's minimal pain for what you get in return!!

I'm 2 and a half weeks post op and overall I'm feeling pretty good. 1st day I was tired and had terrible gas pain from the gas they inflate your tummy with during surgery. It caused me nausea and at times felt I couldn't breathe (first night only) and it hurts when it moves around your back and shoulder. To get rid of you need to WALK WALK WALK and take gas X dissoluble strips. The more you burp the faster that goes away. By day 2 I was up and out shopping :) but not everyone in my group was doing the same but I was one of the younger ones. They mostly seemed tired. I took pain meds for my incisions for the first 4 days maybe and then I was ok. Went back to work within 5 days of surgery.

Mentally is the biggest change. You can't even imagine pre-op how small your stomach will be! If you have emotional eating issues it may be hard to cope as your feel good food buddy is no longer available to you. Watching other people eat what you use to love in front of you is hard also and when feeling good you might try to take a bite of something you shouldn't...DON'T cuz it will hurt and you will get sick. At first just to drink an 8 oz bottle of Water seemed like an impossible feat. A normal plate of food becomes a mountain. Very different from before. One meal I used to eat before would probably feed me for a week now. I had a small mourning period for my little feel good buddy (yummy un-healthy food) but just focusing on the long term now. I've already lost 23 lbs!

Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions. Hope this helped.

I'm 3 days post op and all in all I can say its not so bad. sugar free Popsicles are my best friends! :-) I had a hiatal hernia repaired as well as getting the sleeve done so I don't know if the pressure in my back and chest is normal or because of the hernia. I also have some pain in my left side from the big incision but splinting it really helps! I haven't had a pain pill all day and I'm okay, which is saying something because I'm such a weenie when it comes to pain. You'll do great!!!

I am 2 1/2 wks. post op and feel fine. I never felt any pain or discomfort from the surgery (except for an adverse reaction to the anesthesia and an allergy to the adhesive on the paper tape they used around the dressing for my drain.). I couldn't drink an oz. every 15 min. when I got home but can now drink with no problem, I am eatting pureed foods now and can do about 1/4 c sometimes a little less imagine that will increase over time. I am walking 1 1/2 miles a day and can't wait to get back to work. Except for the bruising on my stomach (and the inability to eat much) it is hard to believe that I had surgery. I hope all goes well with you.

I was sleeved on the 19th and besides a little gas pain after survey I have been fine. No pain meds I have been walking since I was moved from the recovery room. I walk everyday bout a mile. A little hard getting Protein in because of taste. I so have a little pain when no drink but it gets better everyday. Remember everyone is different just keep a positive mind and spirit and ask questions.

I ended up being in the hospital the first week because of not being able to eat or drink. It was a rough time, but manageable. The second week was really minimal pain, but I still took it off from work. Feeling pretty well by the third week and went back to work. No pain really after the third week and still have most of my pain medicine left. Good luck!

I'm 3.5weeks

I was sleeved on a thursday home on Saturday, walking on my treadmill by Sunday, quit pain meds on Sunday too, stopped napping in the day on Tuesday.

I was in pain for 3 days from the gas and that is the only pain I have had. I also had hernia repair and my biggest incision was from that and it was also an extra incision. It was tender to touch but wouldn't normally hurt.

I had a csection 2 years ago Nd recovery from that was worse

The first day of surgery and the day after was bad for me cuz I've never had surgery before so the pain was ridiculous. But by the next two days I was fine and walking around the house with no pain Meds what so ever

My first couple of wks was horrible. the pain which wasn't too bad to manage that it was the mental part that was horrible. I literally had to mourn the loss of food.... and take a step back and re-evaluate my relationship with food. Things started looking up around week 4. and now being six months out, I feel great. Also 110 lbs lighter.

I was sleeved on the 13th. I had very lil pain but for me the nausea was my biggest problem.

They came to me about 20 hours after surgery and asked me if I wanted to go home. I thought they were nuts! I wish I had. I left the next day about noon after taking a shower. I felt sooo much better at home. I still was alike nauseas but by Saturday night I was like oh yeah I got this. Never had much pain. I did walk a lot to get rid of gas. I think that helped me a lot but don't tell my husband! I didn't want to walk but he made me! Lol I was a mean lil chick in the hospital . I didn't want any visitors and I didn't want to talk to anyone or even watch TV. Everyone is different

I read way much had myself scared literally to death. Even to the point of telling my sister and husband what to do if something happened. Hell I even cleaned my closet just in case! Lol Just do what your doctor says. Listen to your body and sip sip walk walk!! Good luck! Btw no meds at all for me anymore I've lost 10 lbs. I'm glad I did it! It's normal to be scared!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
