Recommended Posts

was just wondering. why are we eating like we have the rny our valves are the same and works fine its just are tummys a smaller. have you wondered if they every really researched the sleeve after surgery. it seems we follow the same diet as rny. can someone shed some light on this.

I've always wondered the same thing.

I think their "pouches" are much smaller than our sleeves and they don't have the absorption ability anymore, unlike us. We still have some of that. I prefer having my "normal" stomach with its parts, although there are now less of them. I'm going to still take my mobic....surgeon said I could at a month out. So I am.

I've been eating chicken for 2 weeks :). Love it.

I also hate the chewable multi. Trying to make myself finish the darn bottle though then moving on to something else.

Wish I knew what I weighed. It seems my scale was being too generous to my whole family so I bought another. Nothing like "gaining" 10 pounds Ina matter of seconds :(

Just took my son to subway before his championship (needed to add that) baseball game. Anyway- I was sooooo excited because they said I could make any of the sandwiches into a salad. So my oven roasted chicken breast and veggies (and yep mayo too) is tasting good. Been working on the the last 30-40 minutes and not even half gone. About to throw it away. Sure was nice to be able to do this though

Anyways, I have been reading about everyone having a relationship w a Nutritionist. I'm jealous! I got a phone call w her and an email w info and have emailed her a question or two since. She lives in FL and I'm in California! Wth! Anyways thanks for support and answering questions all the time! Hope everyone is doing well. I'm glad I did this just ready to feel "normal" again! Xo

Has anyone gotten a UTI? I want to know if its common? I know I have one, but I'm just doing over the counter uristat and cranberry juice. I'm not sure if its because I'm down 53 lbs and my fiancé can't keep his hands off me literally every night ;). Or if this whole ketosis thing is messing with me... I get occasional kidney pains. But..... I'm more than thrilled with how the weight is falling off me! So I can deal with the UTI!

Did you eat something that didnt agree w/ you maybe & I haven't thrown up yet @ all but ate to fast for lunch & felt like I wanted to but never did - trying to eat slow is kind of getting on my nerves - I try to wait 1 min or so before I take another bite each time

I have not thrown up throughout this entire journey. So thankful for that! I told my NUT I could be the poster child for this surgery :)

I haven't thrown up but maybe there is something with bananas because I too feel like I need to do that after I have eaten a piece of banana. No matter how ripe it is.

I have not thrown up but i have learned my lesson. My husband bought some ice cream home (it was my favorite before surgery) well i decided that I was going to try it. BIG BIG Mistake. I was sick on my stomach all night. I will never try ice cream again... I wanted to throw up but i couldn't. What an awful feeling.

My dr wants us to wait 10 min between bites of solid food. It's so hard but if I go less than like 7-8 I start to feel yucky full.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
