Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on the 10th. Stopped pain meds on day 3. Started walking 10 minutes 3 times a day on day 3. Have lost 17 pounds. Incisions are itching. I am on day 2 back to work and get really tired by 3. Just the idea that 17 pounds is gone is incentive enough to walk an extra 5 minutes 2 times a day. This is definite the best thing I have ever done.

Had my surgery back on the 10th...so 8 days post op. Cannot wait to get to the baby food stage so I can "chew" something. And have something that is not sweet. I've always been all about the sweets, but yikes all the Protein supps are sweet. My only salvation is the occasional cup of creamy Soup. I really look forward to that. I love the sleeve...just can't stuff myself and am satisfied on so much less. Not that I stuffed my face before, just too much for me...obviously. Had a few days of emotional bouts. Honestly, the meds kinda add to that. And even though I'm only now taking the pain meds at bedtime...they linger. And the weight is beginning to come off. I am the queen of retaining Water so the first few days I was home, I looked like my ankles and feet were stung my a hive of bees. Better now, and after that loss, the scale has begun to drop for real. Just looking for others in the same boat.

Back from my two week follow up from the Dr and on to pureed FOOD! Yay! scrambled eggs extra squished with cheese too! I know how much we want to taste something other than Protein shakes at this point but we had an interesting conversation about food' date=' this gist was this: About 6 months from now, when we're all slimmer and happy with our looks and our success, our sleeves aren't going to keep us as diligent as they are now. It'll be up to us to keep those carbs between 25 and 50 per day, Protein first, all the Vitamins and Water, etc. It'll be easier to wash down the food, eat more, and get more in. The sleeve won't be as sensitive. This next 6 months is to teach us the difference between head hunger and real hunger, and to give us the power over foods that cause addictions in us (like carbs and sugar for me) versus foods that work for us. For example, yeah, you could go for the ice cream, but if you do and it's in the house, you'll eat it till its gone. Could be candy, could be chocolate, chips, whatever your craving is. My mom is a diabetic and I see that working all the time. She lives with us. I am one month on the other side of all my addictive foods. Do I want to keep it that way, or tempt myself again? You open that door, you gotta be strong enough to close it again.[/quote']

Thanks for sharing the 6months out, that's something to look forward to & I'm so tired of liquids I don't know what to do... I am an egg lover so I pray that's still something that will taste good to me, I've read where some people say they didn't like anymore & it came right back up so I pray eggs, fish & things that ik have a lot of protein will still do good w/ the sleeve...

It does get easier as the days pass. My surgeon said that each day I should feel a bit better. And she was right I do. Getting things down at first was hard. I just tried to do a little better each day. It still takes a while to "eat" anything. And when I made the mistake, just today, of taking in my Protein too fast (like I used to drink) I certainly feel it. Not comfortable at all. If all you can do is a little bit, then do that little bit. And try to do a little bit more next time. I'm only now getting in all the protein per day. And it's tough...I HAVE to plan it. And remember to take my time drinking it.

Thanks for the encouragement & ik it will get easier each day - just ready to feel normal & yes everyday I try to better then the one before... Just to actually chew some food would be nice which today I did eat a piece of honey smoked turkey - chewed it very well & it went down actually pretty smooth... Well thanks so much for the encouragement, much appreciated

I was sleeved on the 13 th. I was in the hospital until sunday. I lost a lot of blood during surgery. Then my bladder de died it was going to stay asleep for at least 24 hours. I had a bit of nause but was due to the medications.

I've been having head hunger. I've also been able to eat and drink with no problem. The only thing is that I don't know when I am full. I know it's weird. I try to eat a little bit but enough to get some Protein.

The only pain I have is on my back I think it's how they positioned me.during surgery.

I THINK I STRESSED THE MAIN INSISION AND IT BOTHERED ME ALL NIGHT THE ACHE WENT ALL THE WAY TO MY BACK. YES I WAS SCARED BUT I KNEW I WOULD BE OK. I THINK I AM HAVING A REACTION TO TRADER JOES SPICY BLACK BEAN Soup, KEY WORD SPICY LOL.

I WAS ABLE TO GET MY 60 GRAMS OF PROTIEN IN AND I THINK THAT MADE ME SICK AS WELL I WAS FORCING IT BUT I COULDNT FINISH IT NO MATTER HOW HARD I TRIED LOL.

I HOPE EVERYONE WHO HAS HAD THE SURGERY IS DOING WELL. PLEASE SHARE YOUR PROGRESS SO WE CAN LEARN FROM EACH OTHER.

I am surprised that you are allowed bean soup this soon, I don't have my book handy but I am pretty sure that it said not to have anything like this for 6 months!

I was sleeved on the 10th, ended up spending 3 nights in the hospital for various reasons. I can't wait to get that bill...I am self pay and already stretched really thin financially because of it.

I still have some brief pain when getting up and down but otherwise am OK and haven't needed any pain meds since day 2.

I feel a little bit better each day. Tomorow I go back to the doctor and am praying to get to move on to pureed foods because I am sick ot the Protein shakes. Sick, sick sick!

I went back to work on Monday, thankful that I have a desk job because it was hard for me to sit around the house.

Good luck everyone!

I tried the spicy bean Soup today and something in it made my tummy rumble I think it was the spice.

Bean Soup? Yeah, me neither. It will be a full month before I'm on "regular" food. I have two weeks of full-liquids, then a week of pureed...baby food, then a week of soft foods and then on to regular foods, but slowly, one at a time.

Also, the BACK PAIN! Yikes, me too. It is just now getting better...I agree, must be how they positioned me on the table. But for whatever reason, it still hurts and I'm on day 9 post-op. I will tell you this though, if I get in 3 Protein shakes a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and some creamy soup or yogurt in between and at least 2-3 (mostdays I can only manage 2) 20 oz bottles of Water, I feel pretty good. I still cannot bend to pick something off the floor...my middle still hurts. But if the floor could meet me half way, then it would be fine.

And not to be gross or overshare, but did anyone else have diahrrea for the first week-ish? I know that gas they pump you full of has to get out somehow. However, I didn't expect it to bring friends with it. Especially given the clear liquid diet I was on pre-op. I can say that as of two days ago, it finally stopped. Thankfully, cause those first few days you cannot move really fast and that situation was making me need to move rather quickly.

As for pain meds, yeah I stopped taking those during the day about 4 days ago and was only taking them at night. I went back to work the day after I got home from the hospital (no freaking out, I work from home), but was having loads of trouble talking to clients and trying to be coherent. Thankfully the pain started to diminish quickly and this week I only take some at night to make sleeping more comfortable. Although, they kinda stick with me. Think they get stored in your fat stores and as you are losing weight, the meds get released, built in time-release so-to-speak. But they do help with making moving more comfortable at night.

Now, I'm moving on to intentional exercise. I like the 10 minutes 3 times a day. I think that would be perfect right now. And in a week-ish, I'm going to add strength training...light strength training, mind you. Not interested in pulling incisions open.

Girl, I havent lost any weight this week. I have NO IDEA why, Im assuming something to do with Water weight or something. idk, Im definently gonna talk to the doctor about it tomorrow cuz it FREAKED me out this am. I find that I am now OBSESSED with the scale. I need to like...lock it up week by week.

Dont freak out. I am 2 weeks out today and the first week i lost 8lbs and then this week i have lost 3...every 2 to 3 days i lost a pound and a half over night. I need to stop weighing myself everyday and go back to once a week.

I am 2 weeks out today and i have to say i cannot wait for my 2 week follow up with the NUT today as i should be graduating to stage three food. Stage three for me includes chicken/tuna/egg salad (in light mayo), soft cheeses, refried Beans, eggs of any kind etc. I am sooooooooooooo sick of yogurt, pudding, SF Jello, SF popsicles etc. Its hard to tell when your full on liquids and like an idiot last night i found out the hard way. I figured i would try some chicken a day early...i was fine until i realized i was eating too fast and by then it was too late. I didnt vomit but i was super uncomfortable for like 45 min and somewhat freaking out that i might have done something. I think I am fine but im pretty sure it aggrivated my stomach so ill stick to liquids today. Other than my stupidity I am doing great...i am going to have to work on the eating thing obviously.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
