I Think I Finally Have Found The Right Place!

Recommended Posts

I have been looking into weight loss surgery for about have 6 months. I first decided I would get the lap band because it could be reversed and there was no radical surgery.I started on that cite and really liked it. I made my appointment with the bariatric surgery department and they let me know right off that they were not to gung ho on the lap band. I won't go into all the reasons but when I left my first appointment I knew I no longer wanted that surgery but still was not sure about gastric bypass. I have to be on a supevised diet for six month. The first month went well and I lost 10 pounds then I started to think maybe I could do this on my own. Now at three months I am hoping I have not gained any of the 10 pounds back and realize I can't do this on my own. If I could I would have along time ago I'm sure. I did start on that cite and got some good information. I heard about the sleeve surgery the day I was at the doctor's and they did give me some information on it. The two people I was with were in much worse health than me and that was the surgery they were having so I kind of dismissed it. Now that I have done much more research and found out my insurance will cover the sleeve I think I have figured out what i want to do. I am excited to learn more from the members on this forum. I think it is great we have a place we can support each other.

I've researched the sleeve inside out and upside down. I've watched tons of video blogs on outube from sleevers (from beginning to end) and I've read as much as I can on this site. BTW, the people on here are awesome.

The bottom line is that the sleeve is the only choice for me. I would recommend that you look very carefully, study all of your options and decide for yourself, but I am happy to give you a short list of why I am choosing the sleeve.

1. No malabsorbtion of Vitamins and nutrtrients

2. no dumping

3. no messing with my intestine

4. no major war with constant hunger that the bypass people have

5 I can still take asprin and othe NSAID.

Thanks to both for your posts. I am still in the decision mode but am really leaning toward the sleeve. I have my first meeting with the surgeon on Thur so I'm sure by then I will know where I will stand. Very excited to start this process

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
