How And When To Tell Someone Your Having Surgery..

Recommended Posts

The only person that knows is my husband. My supervisor at work knows I'll be out but he doesn't know for what. I work for a large corporation and eveything is done thru HR and MetLife for std and he doesn't get details. Aside from everyone on here no one else knows. Unfortunately I am surrounded by a LOT of judgemental people and I just don't want to hear it.

I feel where your coming from...

I'm so happy it worked out for you. A few yrs ago a relative was going to get the bypass but her Internet boyfriend talked her out of it. FF to the present. My sister is getting hers done next month and the relative is so jealous. She married the Internet bf, about to divorce and now searching for ways to finance for the surgery now.

That's why I think it's a good reason not to tell most ppl until its over with. You would be surprise the influence some have over others.

I agree that some people do allow other people to influence other's decisions, but my mind is made up (especially Since I started investing money into this). I plan on telling more people (such as my mom, dad and sisters) once I get approved and scheduled.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
