:( Haven't Had Protein

Recommended Posts

You can go buy a Blender Bottle shake or ready to drink Protein Shakes. Just do your research and make sure the RTDs meet the nutrition requirements. I don't know if the lack of Protein will have any long term effects but it could bring back Hair loss. Also, if you are not getting enough protein, any weight loss you have may be muscle loss rather than fat. We need the protein to help maintain our muscles.

Protein is suppose to be important as far as helping your stomach heal after surgery (the incision). Here's a really good article about Protein.< /p>

My Dr. told me between 60-80g...but honestly I don't get that much. Fortunately I havent seen any side effects yet. ( hair falling out etc..)

I'm having a hard time getting 60-80 in every day. When I have solid food, I eat so little and I'm full that my Protein intake is so low (ie-one slice of deli roasted turkey, sliced thin; less than a whole extra large egg, etc). So every other day I'll have 2 Premier shakes. I have one first thing in morning, too ever day. That's 30 grams right there, 60 on days when I have 2. Protein is important to keep up to avoid side affects during rapid weight loss -which WLS causes.

When did you have your surgery? Maybe you are one of the lucky ones. :-)

Doxie I had mine this month Nov. 2nd...and the odd thing is ever since I was in my teens I've always shed hair. It never thins, I just shed hair like crazy...oddly enough since the surgery I barely do that. Of course I believe its due to the Vitamins I'm taking. I've really struggled to get the Protein in, especially in the first week or 2, but now at least I can eat a piece of tender fish and that helps me get some. I unfortunately don't have to worry about losing the weight to fast, my weight loss is SLOOOW, or at least it seems to me it is!

Good idea. I never thought about just alternating and doing the shakes every other day. Maybe that will help boost my metabolism a little!

I had those questions too, but what I realize is that without the sleeve if I were doing the 800 cal. a day I'd be miserable and hungry. Since I have the sleeve I can eat that amount and be satisfied and not hungry. Plus when I do get to my goal weight it will be easier to maintain since I have a smaller stomach. Don't get me wrong I still crave some foods sometimes, and I still have to exercize self control ..for example I love cheese flavored chex mix and could probably eat my 800 cal plus more throughout the day if I had a bag lying around. LOL.. So I know to either NOT buy it or if I want something I'm craving buy a small single serving of it. Unfortunately the surgery doesn't take away your self control issues BUT in my case it has made it easier.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
