Anyone Having Surgery On 9/21?

Recommended Posts

I have gone thru some of the threads for September I think I'm the only one scheduled on 9/21. Anyone else out there getting sleeved with me?

Close, but not quite. I'm on the 20th. Are you on your liquid diet yet? How are you doing with it?

No pre-op diet required which I would have thought he would want me on for at least 2 day prior. I know a lot of people are on liquid diets for about 2 weeks. I think I am going to do one anyways.

My surgeon requires it. I started Thursday. It's going pretty well. It was bumpy the first day but it's smooth sailing now.

I would think it would be an easier transition to post op. I know they are not fun to do but it's all for the best

Hi, I am being sleeved on 21 Sept, I hope. I was originally scheduled for 30 Oct but received a call from the surgeon's office asking if I want to do it next Friday instead. It means starting my liquid diet asap and calling the anaesthetist on Monday to confirm him. He is the critical one now because I won't have time to see him so he will have to be happy to proceed without meeting beforehand.

Yay jls! I hope there are no issues that will cause it to be pushed back. One more week and we will be sleeved!

I'm here!! I leave on Thursday for Mexico. Surgery on Friday. I'm super excited. I'm doing the liquid diet but not doing to good on it.

If you haven't figured it out, I'm in north Louisiana.

Scary but exciting at the same time. My husband encouraged me to weigh myself and take "before" measurements. I finally weighed myself and I have lost 10 pounds since my last Dr visit. That was the encouragement I needed because I felt so sick and lightheaded yesterday - just wanted to can the liquid diet.

I'm having my surgery on the 21st, the day after my 56th birthday! I'm having to drive to Dallas which is about six hours from my home but my son and niece are going with me. I'm not required to be on a liquid diet pre op. I go from feeling anxious and scared to calm and relaxed. I know this is the right thing to do, and I'm so ready to get this weight off once and for all.

Hello to NWLA and to Seven7.

I am definitely confirmed for 21 September, just 3 days now. So excited. Got a bit teary over something stupid today, but other than that I hope I'm holding up. My husband got teary this morning about the surgery but he isn't in favour of it so I am only half sympathic. He accepts that it is my decision but that's as far as it goes.

So, does that mean there are 4 of us "21 September sleeve sisters" with Joisey01 as our day before twin?

Yes, we are sleeve sisters. It's nice to have friends that are starting their journey at the same time. I look forward to sharing our milestones and encouraging each other. I think my husband is more worried that I'm having my surgery in Mexico, but I have a feeling that I will receive better care there than here in Louisiana. Mexico is becoming a surgery tourist destination and the word of mouth is the best advertising there is out there.

I have heard great things about Mexico. Some of the most experienced surgeons around.

It is getting close!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
