Water Intake

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here struggle with staying hydrated? I should be having surgery at the end of this month or beginning of Oct and I am really concerned about getting enough fluids in. I only have one kidney that is diseased and due to that I get dehyrated so easily. If I don't drink at least 64+oz every day by the next day I am lightheaded and generally feel ill. I have heard some people saying within the first couple weeks they can barely drink an ounce at a time. Can anyone put my mind at ease? All of my dr's are very supportive of me having this surgery so I know it's best but I am worried about feeling sick due to lack of Water. Currently I chug it to get it all in and I know that isnt going to happen post op. Any tips or suggestions?

I did not have a problem staying hydrated after surgery because all you do is drink or eat sugar free popcicle and Soup. Now, 2 months later I have a problem drinking enough Water I am only getting in about 50 oz a day. I think you will be fine after your surgery....good luck yeah!!!!

It is hard to stay hydrated enough post-op. It's definitely possible though - you just have to keep sipping every time you're not on the 30 min waiting period after food. I'm 6 weeks out and can take larger drinks (Have been able to since week 4ish) so that makes it easier. If I'm keeping it on my mind constantly I can definitely get all my Water in now.

I had a complication and hydration is a major factor for me. They have been giving me ivs since the surgery two weeks ago. Discuss that with your doc.

I'm 4mths out and I have to get IV fluids every week sometimes twice a week. So dehydration has being a big issue for me.

Oh wow, looks like it's split on if a person will wind up with hydration issues or not. Guess i'll have to roll the dice and see..yikes. Thank you all for sharing your experiences!

I am just a little over two weeks post op and I am doing fine with fluids. I seem to prefer crystle light or sugar free juice to Water, but in the past couple days I have been drinking plain water too. I can take several sips at once and I just make sure I always have something to drink next to me or with me.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
