What Do I Need To Bring With Me?

Recommended Posts

What do I need to bring with me to Mexico? I know I need Gas-X strips, but I haven't been able to find it in the strips. Any advise would be most appreciated and if you can add where you found the products too, that would be great.

Try walmart! I found mine where the other stomach aides are (maalox, gravol etc). I would bring:

Phone and charger

Laptop or tablet with charger

Gowns

Slippers

Pairs of underwear

Notebook and pen

Toiletries (I understand that some shower as early as same day of surgery)

Chapstick

Listerine strips

Robe

Loose clothing for the way home.

Pillow if u have one u like

I know there are a few threads about "what to

Bring". Try the search option..I think someone has made an official list:)

In this forum , there's a thread for Dr Aceves patients that has great info for what to bring, I found my gas-x at Walmart. I recommend a heating pad. It was my bff on day 2 when I couldn't get the gas to move in either direction

What is Peppermint oil and where would I find it? I bought the Gas-X strips today. I always have chapstick. I will definitively look into the Biotin. If I take a heating pad, will an America plug work in Mexico or would I need an adapter like you would if you went to Europe?

The electronics work there, no problem. I should ass, I wish I had brought a hair dryer. Didn't even think of it until I took my first shower and got to wash my hair (YAY!). I brought Shampoo & conditioner, but no hairdryer so I had clean but scraggly hair for two days. :(

I didn't take a robe, wore two gowns.

I took my laptop and didn;t use it but I have an iphone.

Find out about your cell phone charges for Mexico.

I used chewable gasx with no problem.

My first night was in a hotel in TJ so I took their Shampoo but the hospital gave us a packet with soap and shampoo and some nifty hair gel lol.

I didn't take any mouth spray, the hospital gave us lemon swabs to wet our mouths but I never opened mine.

I took Vitamins but didn't take them, I start tomorrow.

I also took nausea meds and didn't use them. I told the Dr upfront that I have nausea everytime I took pain meds and so I was given extra anti nausea in my IV.

I packed very light and still took to much stuff. Take two sets of PJ's and sweat/yoga pants. Take something long sleeved, a hoodie, a sweater, something because it gets cool in the late afternoon and evening.

I thought of something else: I wore my super-comfy bandau bra because it doesn't have underwire but after surgery I was so puffy I couldn't wear it. I had to go bra-less until I went home. Fortunately I was able to get it on that day and still breathe. I wish I had brought one in a larger size.

Me too. It was not comfy walking laps braless for two days.

I was mostly puffy in the abdomen but when I put on the bra the pressure around my ribs was unbearable. I felt like I couldn't breathe. If there's room in that area your bra now, you should be fine. My bra was comfortable, but not too snug and there was no room for the gas. I'm guessing I wish I had 1/2 inch more room around the rib case.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
