When Will I Stop Regretting Having This Done?

Recommended Posts

For your nausea, try sucking on a sugar free peppermint (I just use a sugarfree breath mint) It has done wonders for me. I wish I had discovered it sooner. For me it is almost instant relief. Also, when talking with your doctor, make sure you mention the nausea. It could be due to acid. Your stomach still produces the same amount of acid that it used to in it's larger size (I guess it doesn't realize 85% is missing). If you are not taking one already, you should be on an acid reducer such as a proton pump inhibitor (Prevacid, Prilosec or Nexium) This could make a huge difference. For your liquids, try drinking standing up (giving a straight line from your mouth, through your esophogus to your stomach) Also I had to continuously keep Water with me and just sip sip sip. If cold water bothers you, try room temp, or warming broth or Decaf tea. If room temp bothers you, keep adding ice. I found adding flavor like crystal lite also helped me in the beginining (which is weird because normally I hate flavored water). You may just need to keep experimenting to see what works for you. Hang in there. It really does get MUCH better! In the meantime, try to treat yourself to something non food related, like a new top in a smaller size. There is nothing like getting new clothes to make you say, YAY I AM GLAD I DID THIS!!

Fatigue can be a sign of Protein deficiency and or dehydration . how much protein and Water are you getting a day? the most dangerous thing that you need to watch out for is dehydration and also protein deficiency. both can make u feel like crap. if you need fluids call your doctor. i had to be admit-ed back into the hospital after a week due to dehydration. spent 3 days in the hospital getting fluids. I was so dehydrated the thought that i might have had kidney failure. i stopped regretting surgery after about a month. This surgery is a life changing experience and it requires a lot of life style changes. Stay strong and stay positive, you are doing great !

31 pounds - you are doing awesome! Are you noticing differences in your clothes? And you are in onederland! Has it been a while since you've seen those numbers? Man, I can't wait to.

I know you're having a really hard time, and it sounds simply like it's awful right now. Have you tried many different types of shakes? Drinking faster/slower? Are you getting in Water? When I start getting low blood sugar I start feeling nauseous about eating. Are you getting enough in? I'm sure it's tough with the nausea. Are you prescribed anything for nausea? Maybe your doctor can send you in a script for something. I agree with others that maybe you should get your blood work checked. Also, are you on a PPI? I'm not sure if acid can cause nausea, but it seems like it's possible.

I admit, even 5 weeks out I'm freaking exhausted often. I am getting all my Protein, Water, etc, and I feel simply beat at the end of the day. But I try and remind myself that I will have energy once I am further out, eating more, and healthier. There was a time when I was stuck on my 3 week stall that I started to regret it, but now that I'm losing again, it was totally worth it.

Most of all, you rock. You are strong for getting this surgery and for going through these hard times and when you come out on the other side you will be so proud saying to yourself "I MADE IT" So keep up the great work, see if you can get something for nausea, and hang in there.

My ticker is actually wrong. I am down 55 lbs. I am very happy about that. I am also happy about making the decision to drag myself to the ER for fluids. Hoping this helps.

I'm a little over 5 weeks out, and starting solid food. It's an adventure, for sure. My sister is a nurse at Children's Hospital (transplant floor) and a certified clinical aromatherapist practioner. She made anti-nausea inhalers for the kids on her floor and was so pleased that it helped them so much. They would just lie there, recuperating, sniffing their inhalers. She made one for me, and it was nothing short of amazing. It helped so much during those first few days when nausea was common.

I am 43 pounds down now, and pretty happy with the new me. :)

Hi! Would you be able share you sister's aromatherapy recipe? I know nausea will be a problem for me and it is the thing I'm most anxious about.

You should never have any regrets. You will start feeling more normal around week 6-8 when you are eating regular food. All the other stuff will fade over time just give it a chance. When you here us talk about this being a journey it is because we have all gone through the same thing or similar things. Mark this thread and message me back when you get to 4 months and let me know how you feel. I will bet that you will feel fantastic. Keep fighting

I too had the nausea and still do when I drink just Water (prior to surgery on 7.23/12) I would drink water by the gallon daily!!!! That was HARD for me, I have found TWO things that make it easy to get liquids down - HOT TEA - saviour!!!!!!!! I also use this in restaurants if I am not going to eat and others are - it "fills" me and I really enjoy it!!!!! Also just found these bottles of Lipton sugar free green tea citrus. I have never liked citrus but ther is just enough to give flavor - no carbination and of course caffeine free tea.....try these things and hopefully you will be THANKING your self in no time for taking control of your health and happiness and on your way to the THINNEST you that you can be!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be encouraged the decision to have this surgery wasn't easy. I too have regrets but when I think about all the pros they really out shadow the cons.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
