B12 Injections

Recommended Posts

I hear many people benefit from B12 injections. Are these administered by the surgeon who performed the sleeve, PCP, other healthcare professional, or self administered?

All of the above can administer. My surgeon and/or PCP have advised they will do them monthly or my surgeon will write a script for them to administer on your own. Ask your surgeon's office how they like to proceed.

When I ask for these injections, what should I say the reason is for needing them?

In the south, you can get them at the Krogers Pharmacy, Walgreens and at some minor medical places for $15.00

Has anyone tried the B-12 nasal spray, Nascobal yet? I was so not going to do injections and am not handling pills/sublingual well just now so a sample of this was given to me at my surgeon's office today. I cannot wait to try it.

You don't need a reason. I use to get them before surgery, just for the energy boost. I get them monthly now.

B12 is a manadatory part of my Vitamin list for life. I choose to do the injections once a month which is easier to remember that another pill.

I purchase mine at my local pharmacy (Kroger)$15 / month and they administer it. No prescription required. I just told them I had weight loss surgery, and they call me to remind me its time for a dose. I think the next time I goto the doctor, I may ask for a perscription and get a vial of it and have my nurses shoot me up at work...would be cheaper because I wouldn't have to pay for the administration fee .

I have my 6 week post op appt next Monday. I'll ask him then. Do you inject them at a 90 degree angle in your Lower abdomen similar to lovenox?

I went to the doctor today and they gave me a sample of the nasal B-12. I'll see if I like it and let you know.

Great that someone else has heard of it! I tried my first dose this past Friday. So far, so good.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
