Pcos (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) And The Sleeve

Recommended Posts

I have Pcos too. My cycles are still bad. I was told' date=' I need a DNC. Hopefully after the DNC, I will notice change. I was sleeved in June. My insulin levels are normal now. I've lost over 50 lbs. I was sick weeks after surgery. So the weight came off fast.[/quote']

My cycles are very bad at one point I was only getting my menstrual three times in a yr. I'm praying the pcos gets better.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2004. My cycles were unpredictable and lasted 7-10 days. Ugh!! I was able to have two kids and my second one I became pregnant the first time we tried after I lost 50lbs. He will be a year old next month. I had the surgery in August and I have an iud. I still get large cysts and my surgeon even drained one while he did my sleeve and took out my appendix. The pain from the large cyst is gone and I started a cycle 3 days after surgery. which is unusual since I have an iud. I hope I don't become "too" fertile with all this weight loss. For anyone who is trying to get pregnant I highly recommend checking out "My days". You can track your cycle, intimate moments, etc. when you have tracked a couple cycles it shows you when you are most fertile. I was told I couldn't have kids without fertility treatments for years, but I guess I was out to prove them wrong lol. Good luck and I hope that anyone suffering from PCOS gets past it!

That's how I was able to get pregnant I had lost alot of weight. I was trying to get prego but since they told I wouldn't be able to have kids I was a little irresponsible. So I got pregnant at the time I didn't even know I had pcos and my pregnancy was extremely complicated I had her at 26 weeks. But she's a very healthy 4 year old now thank God. But I want another baby in the future so I hope this will get better eventually

I have PCOS... and I can tell one big improvement, I'm not longer exhausted for no reason. Next Tuesday I'll be heading to my OB-gyn for the first time post surgery, she's the reason I started down this sleeve path in the first place, so I can't wait to see her and at 50 pounds lighter! I'm hoping she tells me all signs of PCOS are gone... I'm do a backflip out of her office! :P

Your doctor, generally your Ob-Gyn, but your regular doctor can do it too... needs to do a blood panel. They will check your various hormone levels, and your glucose levels. There are symptoms that you might see, such as absent or really irregular periods, hair growth on the face, chest or stomach, adult acne, exhaustion for really no reason, mood swings (more than normal), depression... and the list goes on. There is tons of great sites with information about PCOS.

I really like all the information that insulite labs has on their website. I don't use their products or methods they sell, but found their site to be full of some of the most useful information out there for PCOS suffers.

Attached is an article about PCOS. IT is about 8 years old, but it is good and will give you an idea about testing and diagnosis and easily available to pass on to you all. PCOS is common. It is autosomal dominant which means a mother has a 50% chance of passing it onto each daughter. It's prevalence among women is somewhere between 4 and 12 %, or close to 6-8% depending on what you read. If you want a diagnosis, find an endocrinologist or OBGYN who specializes in this. So many are not that well familiar with the issue. I got diagnosed by an ednocrinologist and decided to get a 2nd opinion at a large university and that MD asked me if my periods were regular and I said, Yes, usually. Right then and there she told me I did not have PCOS based on that answer. She had not looked at my labs nor had she asked me the "Right" question after I said Yes to being regular. How many days apart are my periods? The answer was more than 40 days apart which means I have fewer than 10 periods a year, which is important. Some will look for hirsutism (excess hair) which I do not have and conclude there is no PCOS, not everyone has excess hair.

If you think you have PCOS based on what you have read, there is a high liklihood that you do. We are all on the right path though to healing. Just remember that we had the bodies built for famine in the day! We were the survivors in those lean famine years! We are helping our body adjust to 21st century.

Question - Have any of you gone to a plant-based diet after VSG? I am moving in that direction but afraid to have less Protein.

I was dizzy. I begged them to keep me. She put me on estrogen today. Im still cramping bad and bleeding. I don't understand the doctor. I think I might need to try a different er.I can't live like this. Can't eat not good or drink. I keep losing blood.

I had various symptoms of PCOS since I started my period when I was 12 years old, years of misdiagnosis, and misreading symptoms led to so many procedures and doctors blowing me off. Even when I was covered in fibrotic tumors and cysts and needing surgery when I was 19, my surgeon just said it was "random"... it wasn't until 2007 when I got pregnant after a couple of miscarriages the doctors discovered I had triplets. When the specialists started reviewing my history, the extreme periods, extreme weight fluctuation, hormones, severe back and forth cycstic acne- they finally diagnosed me. While 2 of my 3 kids passed away, they heavily medicated me and tried to get the pcos under control after I birthed all three of them. I've only had two serious episodes since, but right after I was sleeved I went through a horrific period again. I'm praying that with this weight loss my body will stop being ravaged... I see stories of hope on here and I'm so thankful.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
