Who's Become A "nut-Ie"?

Recommended Posts

I think I've become one of those people I used to roll my eyes at! I've totally become carb phobic, I judge the menu by how many healthy things are on it, I'm always looking to "split" something with someone lol! I workout 6x a week. Instead of diabetic meds at my desk I have Vitamins. I get excited when I hear about a new low carb, high protien, all natural snack bar!! What happened to me!!! LOL! I used to want to slap people like me and shove a donut down thier throat :-). There is a coworker that just did the Boston Marathon and is a big health nut, before she would talk to me and I've give her a blank stare Abd think the was totally crazy for running so much and depriving herself of sweets etc, now we're besties and share nutrional finds/tips. Anyone else become a crazy health freak?

Absolutely! This describes me as well!! My energy is thru the roof and I am a total fitness fanatic now I can't stand to miss my daily walks or gym session! My kids are like wth Mom because I am making them get off the video games and ride bikes with me around the neighborhood or play badminton with me in the yard lol!!! I figure if I can do it so can they and exercise never hurt anybody! Also I used to hate people like me too I used to say no one can enjoy running/working out that much! Now I understand! I positively love my sleeve!

Without a doubt, to the point that my wife says I'm unbearable. I analyze everything and apparently am quite obvious when she eats something unhealthy. I don't mean to and I really try to not say anything. Especially since she has lost about 40lbs herself, & all of hers was done without the help of WLS. But I am so excited! I can see myself going back to my pre fatty self, and I'm loving it. I just want to bring everybody with me on this ride.

We need to hang out because I have no friends like me now. They all want to sit inside and watch football or nascar. I want to be outside doing something all the time. I'm almost annoyed at my job because it's cutting into my workout time, and nobody understands.

I have been accused of being a workaholic in the past. Now, I'm a work-out-aholic! I get jittery and nasty when things interfere with my workout routine. I want to go to the gym every day and I find myself putting the gym time ahead of everything else. My workout partner and I have had scheduling conflicts that have made me miss a few days here and there, so I've started going at 6am daily. Whether she's ready and willing or not, I am up and gone to the gym. I've even made keeping a gym bag with workout clothes, towel, etc. in my car a priority. What's worse is that I now know the location of every branch of my gym for over 150 miles of my regular travel area and I'll drop in to work out at a location if I have more than two hours to kill. I've become pretty good at getting into the gym, working out for half an hour, showering, getting back into work clothes, and out the door with a minimum of fuss.

Yes, my friends are at a loss at the "new me". Pre-op, I wouldn't walk the length of the mall. It was even hard back then to breathe when walking from the front door to the car. Now, I'm the one with all the energy and the "Let's go do something physical" attitude. What a difference a year makes... and, yes, I know that I'm nuts. :)

Im not a fanatic, however I have come to deeply love getting into my body, and helping it to move with more freedom... I got bone spurs as of late in my knee, and it took months to get the Dr app, then the Sports medicine app, then the physical therapy apps...I missed many dance classes over that time and SOOO missed them. I am back in class now, and am getting physical therapy once a week for a while...and learning about the weakness in my structure that hopefully will be gone soon! Love learning about the body!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
