Lap Bander With Appt. About Getting Sleeve On Friday!

Recommended Posts

Have had my Lap Band for 10 years. I have never had a decent fill. Always too tight or too loose. I have Optum Heal and almost at my deductible. Anyone have luck with them? Pretty sure my doc will do the sleeve. Do they take out band and do sleeve in one surgery? Any advice?

Sharon

My doctor removed my lap band and had me heal for 2 months. I am getting sleeve on Tuesday. Can't wait. But I have heard of a lot of people getting band removed and sleeve done at the same time. Good luck to ya.

I also have had my lapband for 5 years and am going to have it removed and sleeved in the same surgery. This seems to be very common. Unless you have stomach complications there is no reason to "heal" first. I think you are making the right decision............You would probably have to get it removed at some point anyway, get the most bang for your buck and get sleeved!!

I wish you luck as well. I hope that everything goes well. My doctor said it will be his intention to remove my band and then proceed with the sleeve but he will not know for certain until he open me up. I would love to have on surgery but if I have to wait then I will. This is a better time than ever to practice patience. Please keep me posted if you ended up with one surgery after 10 years of having the band. Thanks

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
