Hey everyone. Been browsing the site for a little bit. Tons of wonderful information. Currently in the process of pre-op testing. I'm a 30 year old male, 6ft.2in. 380lbs(+,-), married,1 child(daughter 5months old). I work as a nurse. I have been cleared by cardio, did the nutrition thing. Had sleep study done and diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. Now i have to go back for a second study and meet with a pulm. dr. Psyc appt is 9/11/12. I would like to have surgery late november, early December. No date set as of today. I've been 300+ lbs for the past 12 years of my life. Tried multiple diets, did the gym thing. Lost a few lbs here gain a few lbs there. Never could keep the weight off. I look forward to losing the weight and keeping it off this time.

Sounds like we are both new to this site. I am looking at surgery late October/November. I had my sleep study done and I too have severe sleep apnea. CPAP helps me alot (when I use the machine). I am looking forward to not needing the machine eventually. It's funny, I didn't even know I wasn't getting any kind of good sleep until I used the CPAP. I just thought I was extremely tired because of stress, getting up "early" (6:00am), working, taking care of the kids, etc. I'm also diabetic and am looking forward to hopefully not having to take any meds or insulin.

My sister recently had the surgery. She is 2 1/2 months out and has already lost 40 lbs. It was difficult in the beginning with getting all the Water, Protein in, but she is doing great now.

I've also tried many diets and have never been able to keep the weight off. With every diet I've tried, I gained back all the weight and another 20 or 30 for good measure! :)

Good luck with your journey and let us know how it's going!

Hey, I was 5' 8' and 270. I think when allow for the 6" height difference, we were not that different in body shape. I had sleeve surgery 11 days ago. I have dropped almost 20 pounds already. My post op is in 2 days and I think I will probably get the okay to eat purees. My surgery was difficult because I did not respond well to the IV pain medication. I don't know if it was because I am a man and most patients seem to be women, but I really did struggle until they put me on oral Lortabs. Once I started the oral meds, the story is completely different. Pain has been managable. I am still a bit sore, but haven't had narcotics in three days. Even with the difficult first two days, I have no reservations so far.

William, looking at your pictures, you and I could damn near be twins. I was almost the exact same size as you. I had my surgery a little over 3 months ago, and the weight is flying off. Best advice I could give....follow your Doctor and NUT's plans to the letter, give up starches, learn to love Protein shakes and exercise.

I can't tell you how much better I feel now, just 3 months out. Light on my feet, nimble, tons of energy. I'm starting to see my reflection in the mirror, and it takes me a second to recognize myself.

I wish you and everyone else the same success. Good luck to you. This surgery is just one step, but it will start you down a better path.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
