Researching Ready 4A Change -Dr. Garcia Tijuana - Anyone?

Recommended Posts

I'm considering going to Mexico for my sleeve surgery. Has anyone used Dr. Garcia with the group Ready 4A change. His hospital is in Tijuana. It's surpose to be a new facility. I've talked to the rep several times and she's great. She talks very highly of Dr. Garcia but then of course she would. I'm looking for outside referrals if possible.

As to be expected, I'm nervous about going to Mexico and not having the medical support in my home town of Denver Colorado. I can go to my PCP here but.... I know there can be complications so of course this is a concern. Any thoughts, experiences in this area.

thanks for the help....

Hi there! We actually have a forum dedicated to Self-pay/Mexico surgery and there is lots of valuable info there.

I just returned from Tijuana less than 2 wks ago from being sleeved with Dr. Garcia and used Ready4Achange (Alma). I can not say enough about what a great experience I had with all of it. There are lots of posts you can find if you put Garcia in the search bar up top. Lots of people have told their story/experience and some to great detail.

Yes, the hospital is only about 2 yrs old and does have a ER as well as a cardiology unit...it is not a clinic but a hospital (that makes a difference to some). The nurses, Dr. Garcia, the anesthesiologist, the on call Dr. (I was there over the wkend) the onsite coordinator Melly and Rosie at ths hotel....all was just better than expected!

You will leave with paperwork of the bloodwork they did and everything about your surgery to give to you PCP back home. Suggested time is 3 months to do blood work to check levels. If there are no complications, this is really the only follow up and of course, continue regularly just to make sure all levels are good. As for other complications, I was told by all the staff to call them immediately 24/7 even after back home if there was a problem. I have all of their cell phones and emails for contact if needed.

I also have a few pics in my profile from Tj as well as the Marriott (where you stay before and after) and the hosptial. Didnt get as many as I had planned, but its something to at least look at.

Please let me know if you have any specific questions....I would be happy to answer as well as a number of others here that were sleeved by Garcia!

Good luck on your search...

I understand how you feel as I am traveling to Cancun, Mexico this Friday for my surgery on Saturday (25th) and am nervous and also going alone but I would be nervous even if I was having the surgery in my own city. I also used Ready4aChance and alma is my coordinator and is great!!!!! My surgen is Dr. Hector Perez

I am in Florida so Tijuana is a little too far to travel when I can go to Cancun which is a short plane ride from Florida.

Good luck to you!!!

I went to Mx, my surgeon was Dr. Alvarez. You cross the border at Ragle Pass Texas to get to his hospital. I know he isles expensive than some I'm MX but he does a wonderful surgery and is a truly caring Dr.

I'm from Denver and had surgery with Dr Garcia. I had a good experience and went by myself. My hubby stayed home with the kids. I never once felt unsafe. The hotel Marriott is very comfortable. PM me if you have any other questions.

I am not sure about Dr. Felipe Garcia, but Dr. Fernando Garcia is who I used and he does not have a coordinator named Pedro as far as I know.

Dr. Garcia does bariatric surgery only - no removal of skin, you would need a cosmetic surgeon. Total cost for me for the Sleeve was $4,700, but was special for Aug - usual cost is $5,000

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
