Surgery Tomorrow And I Bummed....

Recommended Posts

My husband works out of state 48 of the 52 weeks a year. We normally try and plan things like this. But this all happened so fast, that he'd already had his schedule / flights/ ...... booked 3 weeks out.

I told him to go on and go b/c I had a girlfriend that was taking the day off to come be with me.

Well.......I just found out that she will be leaving shortly before noon to go take her son to Sophmore orientation. They won't even take me back until 10:30 ish.... So I won't even be out of surgery before she leaves!!! this was one of the main reasons for her being there, so someone would be with me during surgery and then they could call my hubby with the report afterwards.

I am so bummed. Our oldest daughter lives an hour away and has our 16 mo GS, so a hosptial for hours is no place for her/him to be. Our youngest daughter is 23 & still lives at home b/c she has multiple health probelms. She isn't even staying at home alone while I am in the hosptial and until hubby get home Friday afternoon, she is going over to a friends house.

I am at a loss as to what to do. Suggestions?

:(

I know this seems devastating but why not have your friend stay until she needs to go and if you aren't out of surgery have her in the list to receive info about your condition so she can call in and get info and be able to call your husband as soon as she finds out. You will probably be put in recovery for at least a hour as well and will probably still be out of it for a while. She might even be able to be back by the time they get you in a room. My surgery was at 8:15 and I was not put in my room until noon and it wasn't until then that I woke from the anesthesia.

I'm an OR nurse and we get the surgeons to call or we call family members all the time. The only catch to it is that if the person you tell us to call is not listed on your hospital contact list, then we can't call. Just let the nurse know, I'm more than sure it won't be a problem. Good Luck!

I agree with Ready4Success, when I worked in the O.R., we never minded calling spouses that couldn't be there.

It can be hard to go thru this alone, but you will do great & have some time to settle in with your "new stomach"!

I told my husband to go out and eat dinner. My surgeon called him when I was out and he came back for a little bit to hang out but I pretty much slept that whole night. He fell asleep on the couch and I made him go home. He couldn't be there the next day but I was totally fine by myself. My mother in law actually came to pick me up and take me home. Everything was fine... I brought the iPad but didn't even take it out. The time went by super fast.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
