Cancun...and A Few Things

Recommended Posts

I am going to Cancun on August 24th, having surgery on the 25th and am going alone and am so nervous. I thought I would at least be able to contact my friends back home but TMobile doesn't provide international service from Mexico to the US UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am also a little uncomfortable w/the drain they leave in for a day or 2.

I am a barrel of nerves I guess you can say, traveling alone to a place I have never been, to have a surgical procedure is not something I am looking forward too but yes, the after...feeling better is going to be well worth it.

Thanks for listening

As far as the drain goes, just bring a lanyard that you can attach to the drain and hang it around your neck when you shower. Also it is a good idea to bring a large safety pin so you can pin the lanyard to your clothes. It doesn't hurt, just annoying. It is easy coming out too. Two days is nothing! You will do fine. :)

Im not sure if you plan to take a laptop or ipad/iphone but Skype saved us while we were in Tj. My husband was with me, but we were able to skype with my kids, my parents and his mom every single day. Seeing each other face to face AND hearing our voice was better than ever especially when they were anxiously waiting for my surgery to be over.

The drain, I admit I was not looking forward to at all. But, except for being a little annoying when trying to shower and not knowing what to do with it was really no big deal. You dont even know it is there otherwise and does not hurt when they remove it (or it did not me).

You will be great.....we were nervous also, but everything turned out to be a very pleasant experience!

The drain was no problem, felt weird when they removed it. The IV was what I couldn't stand, and in Cancun they leave it in until almost time to go home...UUGGHH!

Hi Faith4me- find out if the hospital has wireless Internet for the patients that is reliable. If it does, u can also check out an app for smartphones called "Viber" that lets u make phone calls via wireless Internet on ur cell phone.

Thanks everyone, I am not sure if I am going to take my laptop, I probably will..skype is a great idea..thanks :)

My surgery is with Dr. Perez

Thanks for the suggestions and for relaxing my nerves about the drain. I just can't wait to be post-op although I am sure it won't be easy at all adjusting to my 'new life' but well worth it in the long run.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
