Pre-Op Nutrition Appt....hide The Scale!

Recommended Posts

So I had my pre-op nutrition appointment this evening. I really like the nutritionist and it was a plus because she spoke good English. Our convo went into Spanish several times, but I really like talking about all this health stuff in English. She took my height, weight, and measurements. It is confirmed I am shorter than I originally thought! 165 cm equals 5'5 ....Wow. I thought I was more like 5'6. So we talked about my history, she looked at my labs and told me how great and healthy they look. Again, confirmed I am healthy fat. If such a thing. HA! Anyway we talked about a variety of subjects. She did give me homework:

No Sugar

No Flour after 4 PM

Practice eating slower (I told her I am a fast eater)

No Calorie Counting

and she told my husband to HIDE THE SCALE!!!

Can I just tell you that I am a daily weigher, but after being on the boards for the last few weeks, I do believe it will be a great habit to break prior to surgery. My husband told the nutritionist he loves her for life.

I also had my pre-op dietary appointment today. Went pretty good especially since I didn't know what to expect. My homework is to cut down then out caffiene, slow down my eating and plan my meals. She will submit my paperwork back to the coordinator at my doctor's office and they will submit the paperwork to my insurance company. So I guess I could have an approval within the next 2 or 3 weeks!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
