4.5 Months Out, About How Many Calories

Recommended Posts

I had surgery March 21, so about 4 1/2 months ago. About how many calories should I be getting. The sheet from my doctors office say 800calories, but doesn't say how soon after surgery i should be at that or how long to stay there. Some days I am only getting 500 or 600 and days like today i got in 1200. The fact that i got in that much scares me. But i don't really know if that amount is normal.

It's good to have a target, but it's more important to keep a journal to track what you're eating (calories, Protein, carbs, fats, etc). My doctor wanted me to stay at 600 until after six months. But the more I read on here, I realized it was good to mix it up and do 800-1000 some days and then back to 600 other days. I saw that Dr. Oz calls it "Calorie Confusion" and is a good metabolism boost. That being said, I think the body can get too comfortable if you're always keeping within the same 50-100 calories every day. Try to mix it up on days you're exercising more perhaps?

But always shoot for the 60-90g Protein (females), keeping carbs between 40-70g, and drinking plenty of fluids.

  1. My doctor did tell me at least 75 Protein and I'm finally getting close to that. I do try to track on myfitnesspal, i get it done at least 5 days a week. And i am getting about 45 to 50oz Water a day. Today was justthe most calories i have had since surgery and it kinda freaked me out a little.

I had my sleeve done on 3-27. I eat about 800 calories a day. I can go upto 1000 if I have something such as a piece of birthday cake.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
