Anybody slurpped down a raw oyster yet? They have lots of Protein and very little fat, but they may not chew up that well. I am a month post-op and looking for interesting options.

been afraid to try them. in new england we have quahogs (yes from the family guy) and you eat the raw with no chewing. I am sure that they are high in Protein. but to have to chew them kind of turns me off

I think they would be okay - since it's not fried. However, 3oz of oysters doesn't have near the Protein fish does. I know I work hard to get my 60-70g of protein a day - and oysters don't have a lot......

I looked the nutrition up again and you are right, the Protein isn't that impressive. Sometime the data on MyFitnessPal are all over the place

I love oysters, and have a relatively loose band. The only foods I seem to have problems with are carbs- Pasta, bread, tortillas etc. And eating when I’m starving. I just slurped down 6 raw oysters with no problem. They slid right down. But they were small oysters. So I would say it depends on how tight your band is and how big the oysters are. What I did was order fresh oysters from the grocery store. I shucked them myself, then added a little lemon juice and salt. I did it in the privacy of my own home in case it didn’t go well. And it went great. I’m getting more next week!

I ❤️ oysters too ❤️

I think I had my first post-op raw oyster around 2 months after surgery. Just one at that time though, i slurped it and it was bigger than a "normal" bite for me so I didn't want to eat more just in case. My capacity for them increased with time, and now I could probably eat 4-6 of them (depending on size) by themselves comfortably in one regular sitting.

However, I was eating canned smoked oysters at around 4-5 weeks post op, i think. Maybe about 2-3 of them at a time.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
