Will It Always Hurt? Help!

Recommended Posts

Hi, I had my surgery 07/25 so 1 week post -op today. For the most part I am doing ok but my sleeve keeps growling and making crazy sounds. When it does that it hurts? also hurts a whole lot when I try to drink my flids and Protein. How long does this last? will it get worst as I am allowed to move up in stages of what i can eat?

Thanks for the support!

I had my surgery march 30th, it's the wind that hurt the most and it has taken me about three months to learn how to deal with this. It's like a baby learning to cope with it, I have used infa care a wind medicine for babies (my dietian advised this). I now find that if I take tiny sips of Water and small amounts of food my new stomach can cope with it.

Don't give up it just takes time to adjust. It's the best thing I have ever done!

My sleeve makes all sorts of weird noises too. Most of them don't hurt, but some do. It seems like the smaller sips I take and more time I take having meals, the less noise it makes. Also if I try and eat every 2 hours it's less talkative too.

Thanks. Doc just took out my drain today and I am feeling much better.

Glad to hear your feeling better. I didn't have a drain, so no help there. I will tell you that every time I advance to a new phase of food my stomach makes all of these weird gurgling noises. It doesn't hurt, but is very loud. It cracks me up every.single.time. It only lasts for a day or so.

My surgery was on July 30 and my new tummy makes all kind of noises. I can't wait to see what it does when I start adding food. Lol

I'm having the same problem, I thought I was alone! It hurts at times to swallow and I'm hearing all this gurgling and rumbling and I'm still struggling with gas.

Whenever I start to feel gas pain I get up and walk around and that usually helps. I still haven't burped or farted any. If I take to big of a drink then that hurts too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
