Super Ready For This

I'm curious to know how those of you who are in college adapted to the change. I'd like to say that I'm a pretty outgoing person, but being so vastly different from most people in college (I went to a private school, and everyone was rich, thin, super active, and extremely weight conscious - it was terrible :( ) I kind of became a shut in. I didn't want to go to parties, I didn't want to even go to the caf. I really felt like everywhere I went people were staring or laughing.

I'm looking forward to starting a new program at a new college this fall with a brand new body. Well, with the workings towards a new body! It'll be super interesting to see whether or not I can feel comfortable hitting the social scene again, and I'm super excited to try!

How did this transition go for anyone else? Not just the college scene, but getting back into the flow of things if you shied away like me?

I am kind of wondering this too. Similar situation, although not private school. I have been kind of a loner for quite a long time. I'm sure it will be an adventure. I'm about halfway through school in a program where I have 7 set classmates that I always will be in classes with that I've gotten pretty comfortable with. So I have a feeling a little will change, but I'll let you know how things go outside of my little comfortable group =p

Well really this is one of those things only you can answer for yourself. Ultimately, yes, others will see you differently. But the real question is how you will view yourself. And are willing to put yourself into uncomfortable situations? Yes, they will definitely be uncomfortable at first I mean let's face it you haven't been social butterflies so this will all take some getting use to. But hey, it will get easier the more you put yourself out there. I'm just really glad both of you decided to grab this bull by the horns now, rather than waiting like so many of us have.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
