At What Weight Limit Did You Say "you Have Had Enough"?

Recommended Posts

At 225 I said enough was enough. I went to talk to meet with the bariatric team an was scared shitless (especially being 20) I left the office and said no, this isn't for me ill go back to weight watchers. I did weight watchers for 3 months and had no weightloss. Over the course of a year I was continuing to gain weight, I was always exhausted, i lost my self control when it came to food, and I began to snore really badly. I got a job and in August I went to DC for a training with a coworker who had bypass. That trip I talked to her about everything regarding my

Weight problems. She told me how her surgery was the best thing she ever did. I called

My mom while I was in DC and told her to make me an appointment to go back to the bariatric team. The ironic part was my appointment date was exactly one year from my first original appointment that freaked me out.

Okay..I am going to divulge what prompted me to research and sign up for this lifechanging decision..if anyone laughs I will hunt you down!!!

I have gained and lost the same 100 pounds my whole damn life..done nutrisystem, weight watchers, phentermine, you name it. I am a secret Housewives of New Jersey junkie..*hangs head in shame*..when I saw on the reunion show last year how awesome Lauren looked with her Lap Band..I was like wow, maybe this might be an answer! So I went to a seminar but ended up deciding on the sleeve. Best decision I have ever made..I was 238 at that time.

You know I was wondering the same thing. I am watching it right now..she doesn't look much thinner than the reunion show. But I don't know how they tape these things if there is like a break or something.

I am also a Housewives of OC junkie :( DAMNIT!

I can definitely relate to losing and gaining the same damn 100 pounds, except each time I would gain back an extra 20!

I had enough when I got 5th disease from my kids and was so sick, I knew the weight was making it even worse!

OC here too! I love looking at people that don't look remotely human anymore! :D

Its funny you guys mention this... After seeing Lauren Manzo's success with the Lap Band I started looking into WLS... Then after seeing Lisa Lampinelli's success with the sleeve my mind was made up!

Getting on my scale after not weighing myself for about 6 months after having a baby, and weight more than when I was 9 months pregnant, over 200lbs (208lbs) now down to 198ish on my own…will never see 200 again…can't wait to be sleeved! (I'm only 4'11)

For me it was a perfect storm of things:

1. My sister's wedding was coming up, and instead of being happy for her, I was dreading the pictures, and having to find a dress.

2. My dad was scheduled for his 4th knee surgery in 5 years, with his weight being 50% of the problem.

3. Watching my mother suffer from knee pain, foot pain, incontinence, diabetes, sleep disturbances and a complete inability to find shoes.

4. A second wedding in August where I will see a lot of people I haven't seen for a while, and who witnessed my life crash and burn a few years back (living well is the best revenge, right?).

5. And months of yo-yoing 10 lbs up and down...I was just so tired of food always being an issue.

I finally thought, "ENOUGH! This is my life, and I'm taking it back!"

My gynaecologist sat me down at my heaviest and discussed the genetic predisposition to cancer in the women in my family and how it is most likely related to obesity. I had just had a cone biopsy due to precancerous cervical cells. She showed me a weight chart she had done over the last few years tracking my upwardly yo-yo-ing weight and voiced her concerns in no uncertain terms. It scared the wits out of me and I started researching WLS around that time. It was one of the most awkward discussions I've ever had, but I'm so glad she confronted me.

Sent from my iPad using VST

What a great doctor, to take the time to do that, and to overcome the awkwardness to confront you on your weight. And what a great patient, to take the guidance to heart like you did!

For me it was at 267, but it wasn't the mere number that did it. There were several things that I couldn't stand:

I carry the weight oddly. I have thin/muscular legs and arms, and carry it all in my tummy and my inner thighs. My inner thighs would rub together and create terrible blisters that would make it impossible to walk without crying.

Also, I'm a high school teacher, and one day I tried sitting in a student desk to get next to a kid to help him, and I got stuck in the desk... So embarrassing.

Lastly, I love to line dance. There was a time where I could last through 5 songs in a row, and despite being sweaty, I'd feel good. At 267, I could barely finish 2 songs, and it made me miserable to have to stop something that was one of the only healthy things I was doing for myself, ironically because I was unhealthy.

Lastly, I am also a Cyster and I don't get periods at all. Ever. A few years ago, I lost 40 lbs by myself, and my period spontaneously started. My endocrinologist said that the only way I'd be able to have kids is if I lost the weight. My husband said to me one day "I don't think you really want to have kids. If you did, you would take care of yourself." That hurt like hell, but he has a point.

All these factors made me finally say "ENOUGH!"

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
