Lovenox Injections Post-Op

Recommended Posts

My pulmonologist prescribed lovenox injections 1x day for 10 days after surgery for blood clots. I am not afraid to administer an injection as I used to be a nurse, however I'm not sure I've seen this as a discussion. What other post-op meds can I expect?

I was administered the lovenox injections only the 1st 3 days after surgery. I was sent home with a prescription for oral pain medication to take. That was it.

I only had to have the lovenox injections because I ended up with a blood clot from the IV site when I had my surgery. They gave me cumaden as well for it ( and am still taking it over a month later )Not sure why you are being given those...hope everything is okay! Keep us updated!

Same here. Maybe because I don't have a history of clotting.

Usually those with a BMI of 50 or greater will have to do luvenox injections. My sister gets hers twice a day for a week.

Mine arrived in the mail yesterday. A little nervous about administering my own shots (or having my wife do it), but whatever it takes to be healthy!

I did 10 days of Lenox shots. Just standard with my doc. It wasn't really mentioned before surgery and I wish it would have. Thankfully I had insurance so my copay was $5. Without insurance, it was $1000. Be sure to pinch the injection site....it doesn't burn as much. Good luck!!!

I had lovenox injections 2x day for 14 days. I had not problems with blood clots prior or post surgery, but was okay with the extra precautions.

I'm going to request lovenox if they don't prescribe it. I have a blood clotting disorder.... Factor 2. I sure don't want to have a PE!

Per my surgeon's request I am taking Lovenoxdaily for 14 days after discharge. It was given to me post op in the hospial as well. I did not have any issues with blood clooting prior to surgery but my doc uses it as a preventative.

I will say this, I'm on the generic and the cost was still insane at $107.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
