I Am Having Second Thoughts - My Surgery Is 17 Days Away

Recommended Posts

So today was the first day that I had second thoughts. I started to think that ....what if it doesn't work for me? What if I always feel as sick as I felt when I had the lapband? What if I have complications?

How common is nausea? Or vomiting? Or complications?

UGH - I wish I had a crystal ball.

I don't know if I can do this. Maybe it's the 5 days of liquid diet getting to me.

Thanks for listening.

I have never thrown up. food doesn't get "stuck." My best friend has the lap band and she is jealous. She pukes a lot, things get stuck, and she is generally miserable. Recovery pain was very minimal. The liquid diet is by far the hardest part of the entire process. You can do this. Don't lose hope for a nausea-free future. :)

You can do it. I don't know what it's like to have the band but I am confident that te sleeve is much better after all of my research. Hang in there- the what ifs are tough but I think that's probably normal

I just removed the lap band and got the sleeve instead. I had the band for 10 years and I had major acid reflux, it caused a hernia and I always had to run to the bathroom to throw up. I have had the band for 3 weeks and even though I have had major gas pains the actual surgery does not hurt. Im not sick or nauseated. I would highly recommend!! Good Luck!1

This surgery has literally been a life saver. I cannot tolerate hotdogs and breaded fried foods, but honestly I've has enough of those to last a life time. I personally had to stop reading the complications because the stories were really starting to freak me out. I'm 4 months post op and 70 pounds down. There is no way I could have done that on my own. I love my sleeve.

No bad stuff here either- minimal pain, no nausea or vomiting.

Without surgery I would have inevitably had bad stuff- but make sure you understand what it's all about. Good luck! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
