1000 Calorie Diet... Help!

Recommended Posts

Hi it's me again with another question.

I am type 2 diet controlled diabetic. I am in the process of having the procedure done. I have done all the testing and I see the surgeon again on the 17th of August.

I had been following the pre-op diet of 1200 calories a day without any problems and eating about 850-1100 calories a day and exercising one hour 5 to 6 days a week. I had been losing weight.

So I saw the surgeon on the 16th of July and he wants me to replace a meal with a Protein Shake and stick to a 1000 calories a day. Now the Protein shake is 300 cal. so that leaves me with 700 cal for the other two meals. But for some reason when I drink the shake in the morning I get super hungry all day long. So then I switched it up and having it for lunch.... the problem is that my blood sugar drops to the 80's- 90's which makes me feel very shaky and lightheaded giving me a headache and I can't concentrate. I am fine when it's in the 100-110.

I feel that if I had 3 meals instead of the shake I would continue doing good. I don't want to go against Dr.'s orders but I hate feeling this way.

I honestly don't know what to do.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

What Protein shake are you drinking, because 300 calories sounds high? I use the Syntrax nectar and unjury brands and they are 100-140 calories depending on if I use 1 or 1.5 scoops (20-35g protein).

How much Water are you drinking? Are you taking any Vitamins yet? Some of your shakiness sounds like it could be dehydration and/or low levels of electrolytes. I would try to call your doctor and speak with them about what you're feeling and their suggestions.

Hi

I am drinking the premixed EAS 45gr. Protein. I drink 74 oz of Water daily. I take multi-vita and 4000 units of vit.D as per dr.

It's weird but any time my bs gets below 100 I feel shaky and lightheaded. The dietitian had stated that it was because I wasn't eating enough food.

Thanks for your help. I probably will email the dr.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
