I Know I'm Not Supposed To Compare...

Recommended Posts

I'm so frustrated with myself and disgusted with my body!! I know I'm not supposed to compare my journey with others, but I can't help myself. My sister in law had her surgery 6 weeks before I had mine. She is already below her goal. I am almost 7 months out and I am at a measley 56 lbs. I am so upset and frustrated that I can't even be around her at family get togethers any more because I feel like such a failure. I know I have to get back to working out (I got down on myself, and stopped working out about 3 weeks ago). I just want to cry. Granted, her BMI was MUCH higher than mine at the time of surgery, and I know that things move slower for those of us with lower BMIs. Before surgery, 56 lbs lost would have felt like a victory...so why does it feel like a massive failure after surgery? I really don't mean to come across as feeling sorry for myself, and I apologize if I do.

Put on an old pair of pants that were tight to remind yourself how far YOU have come. Look at some of the NSV that you have had. I am a low-bmi having surgery soon and I'm worried about the same thing. I have a friend who had surgery and lost alot of weight quickly and she will be the person to comment on how slow I am loosing.

You are loseing. You've lost alot. You've come a long way. Keep it up. Compare yourself to where you would have been if you did't have the surgery. :)

And...Be sure to remind me of all of this when I'm having the same problem. good luck.

Don't beat yourself up. Your journey is not complete, you are getting there at your body's pace. On the bright side, you prob won't have severe skin issues. Feel proud of every damn pound lost, because it's gone forever and not coming back. Start monitoring your food and Protein intake, and be happy with the peace of mind that you are doing all you can. Best of luck to you!!!

Remember all of our bodies/metabolism are different so we will lose wt. at different rates. This is why I don't compare myself with others, I continue to exercise at least 60 min, 5 days a week and lift wts at least three days per week and my wt, is coming down in a healthy way. Exercise is very important to losing the wt. and keeping it off. You also don't want to lose the wt. too fast because of Hair loss, etc. Good luck to you and please stop comparing your loss to others.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
