I'm in the pre-op process and I take a boatload of meds, some of them for depression. Will I be crushing these post-op and mixing with a clear liquid? How did you do it and what did you put it in? Is there a typical time when you can resume medications in capsule or tablet form?

Thanks in advance.

You are gonna need to consult your doctor about this one. There is a very good chance the he/she might completely change your prescription due to the surgery.

all of my tablet meds have to be crushed and my paperwork says that i'll be doing this for 1 year! crappy, but it's been almost 3 months and i'm more or less used to it. some meds taste horrible so i use a pill crusher and pour them onto a spoon. then i pour a little strong flavored Water (I like Propel's blueberry pomegranate and black cherry) onto the spoon and carefully swirl the meds so they get coated. then bottom's up! i do the same with my anti-acid that comes in a capsule -- i just open the caspule and pour in into the spoon. i'm still a clutz and spill meds or the Water at least a couple times a week so maybe by the 1 year mark i'll be a pro.

i still get strange looks if i have to do it in public, but i think most of them are reactions to the scrunched up face i make (still after 3 months!) because my anti-depression/anxiety med tastes AWFUL!

Same here except I was on Effexor XL which is a time release capsule. The hospital physician advised that I not open the capsule and take the whole thing because I would the effect all at once. She prescribed a tablet form I now get to crush. Oh well. I'm sure I'll even get use to that.

I agree with OTR, check with your doctor...

6 days out and I was told if it's smaller than a pencil eraser to break it in half. I do that and have had no problems taking pills. I even took that big acid reducer capsule this morning with my peppermint tea and didn't have a problem with it going down.

I am able to drink/swallow also with no difficulty.

Everyone is different, every surgeon's advice is different.

Don't let the pill thing be a big deal. I obsessed far too long over that.

You wind up making yourself worry about so many things in this process but they seem to get handled just fine as they arise. Good Luck!

I'm 3 weeks out and I have to crush my meds too. I take Lithium for depression and it's disgusting. This is what I do:

i crush it and dissolve it in a little bit of Water.

I hold my nose and swallow it

Still holding my nose, I start chewing my Calcium supplement, then I can unplug my nose and it doesn't taste too horrible.

My daughter thinks I'm hilarious and loves to watch the routine LOL

Good luck!

Shaprius works better than lithium n it's sublingual

I'm 5 months out n I swallow. All my Vitamins at once. I can't stand the taste of the chewables so everything I swallowed at once. Only got stuck in my throat once. But it went down in about a min

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
