Oh no, I was really hoping you would get some good test results!

Me too, I was shocked, to say the least.

Sending prayers. I have lupus and I understand autoimmune disorders. You really truly have had a hard time.

I myself am worried about a stricture. It takes too long for the food to go past my esophagus into my stomach and no matter how small I chew the food it sits there for a very long time. I do not throw up but I feel like the food is there. I am eating about 1/4 of a cup at one time and I'll be out 7 weeks on Monday.

I had a complication with surgery which may have narrowed the opening of the esophagus and stomach opening and I'm willing to bet the scar tissue from the issues is what is getting the best of me. I see other people seem to be eating so much more than me.

The esophageal tube the anesthesia used (besides the bougie) slipped into my stomach at the exact moment my surgeon was making the last two cut/staples, and it so happened the esophageal tube was stapled inside my stomach. Unstapling it was proving to be too hard. They brought in a team of gatro's and they were going to go and cut around it but that would have severely narrowed my stomach/esophagus, and after several tries by other doctor's and surgeons, my surgeon was finally able to remove the staples and get the esophageal tube out of me. However, I have to make sure that every piece of food I have is completely and thoroughly chewed and I can barely get 2 ounces of food completely in me (except I can take down a sugar-free pudding) even Soup the most I have done is almost 1/4 a cup.

I will definitely keep you in my prayers and if things don't seem to go down any better for me by my next appointment I will have them do some testing.

Dang! I know I read that surgeons must be careful stitching that upper part so that it's not too narrow. You really have been through the ringer.

Sorry too about the myasthenia gravis. My FIL has it.

Do you think it's the fault of the doctor? I'm really curious..I don't know what causes them.

I had my EGD this morning. Everything was kinda weird. The original report stated I had a slight stricture. After the procedure was over, my doctor talked to my family and they said he told them that he didn't see anything but did a balloon anyway?? I never got to see him and won't see him till follow up so I don't know what happened to me today and didn't get to ask any questions. My family also said that my oxygen levels went down during the procedure but apparently that ended up being ok. They said my dr told them he took plenty of pictures of the procedure and that I had alot of problems with the whole swallowing problem with MG before so that was probably it. I'm just shocked and feel like I just went through all the worry and stress of today for absolutely nothing. I feel like my doctor is worried I am blaming him for something and he seemed a little defensive..I don't know..it was just strange. I wasn't the one who said it was a stricture nor did I want one. I had only reported that I got a tight feeling when I eat and food would sometimes come up..they ordred the upper gi and they told me it was a stricture and that I needed this procedure. I don't know how to feel right now.

PQ: Great job taking care of yourself. I am so happy that everything is good and there was no stricture. Your doc was probably in a hurry and was just being matter of fact. If he does have any thoughts that your blaming him, then that's on him. You are not responsible for his junk. I love that you have been proactive with treatment and followed through. I'm so proud of you. Please try not to worry about the doctor and his behaviors, it's not about you at all. Continue to heal and be happy for you. :)

He said everything looked ok,,then he said there was one area so he ballooned it, so guess I wanna know was there or wasn't there a stricture. And you're right, Dorrie,,I need to quit overthinking about my dr's issues. I am I'm up and about now..have a terrible headache but I survived.

I think you need to eat extra slowly and chew well. I know I do. When I get home sometimes I am ravenous. I have an hour commute home. I tend to want to bolt my food and even a small bit eaten too fast will feel horrible. Dies every type of food feel this way?

I should take a snack for the drive home right?

Glad you're through this mess.

I have slowed down alot,,I use to scarf it down like there was no tomorrow,,but I can't do that now. I even get this feeling when drinking Water. My chestwall muscles are really weak so he's probably right, it might just be the myasthenia. He did find a small area that he ballooned so we'll see how it goes. I've only had soft foods today,,being extra careful. The true test will be when I eat something solid.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
