How Long Should I Wait To To Take A Trip To India

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am just 17 days out of surgery, but one of the things I've always wanted to do was travel to India. I never really persued it because airplane seats are so uncomfortable for people that are really overweight.

Anyways now that I have a skinnier butt to look forward to, I wanted to plan a trip in a year from now as a treat to myself. For those people that are a year or two out how does your stomack handle spicy foods, curries, foreign bacteria etc

Just wondering if this is a good idea or not...

I eat the same spicy food now that I did pre-op, spice doesn't bother me. If I go someplace with poor sanitation, like Africa or the smaller Indonesian islands, I might get an upset tummy for a day or two but I had those pre-op, too. Nothing has changed except my tummy is loads smaller and the airplane seats are lots roomier. Start planning, I am sure you'll have a great time!

I'm 3.5 months out and already I can handle spicy foods.

I am 16 days post op and I have eaten I Indian food already! I add hot sauce to everything! After 9 days I was moved up to almost a full diet, just no raw veggies or fruit or any red meat. As for traveling, not sure I have take. A 2 hour road trip and did great.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
