Read back through this thread - there are quite a few patients of Dr Geiss, myself included.

Candle - I must admit I have been stalking you, (in the nicest way possible). I started reading the boards since August and following your progress. You have done an amazing job and are a real inspiration for me. I am getting banded by your doc as well. Thanks, for continuing to post and share your comments and suggestions...You must be proud of yourself and feel fabulous!

Wow - thanks!! :)

Good luck - keep us posted on your progress.

No. I haven't been to any of the Support Groups. I'm not sure why, I just don't feel like going -lol. That sounds so bad but it's honest.

_______________

I'm not familiar with that insurance, sorry.

Your BMI is 34.8

It all depends on your specific policy. Do you have any co-morbities? I think most want to see at least 2 for a low BMI.

Call your insurance co.

Good luck- you will do fine- Dr. Geiss and his staff are wonderful- I am going for my first fill on Thursday, and am looking forward to it- I had surgery on 10/1- the weight loss is slow, but should get better after the fill

Thanks Ilene Did you strictly adhere to the Medifast preop diet? If so, how much did you lose. I start it tomorrow.

Welcome Pizzaman.

I not only strictly followed the pre-op diet but I started it a few days early. (I had waaaaaaaay too many "last suppers") I did 12 days pre-op and lost 14lbs!! It was a great jump start on my weight loss and made the transition after surgery so much easier. I watched a few band surgeries on or-live.com and watching them move that big floppy liver out of the way was enough to scare me into following my liquid diet to the letter - lol! The first 3-4 days were hell. -lol

I didn't do the suggested Medifast though. GROSS and too expensive! I used powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury instead.

Good luck.

I hope everyone else is doing well!! I had a follow appointment today and I'm down 75lbs!!! woo-hoo!! I got my blood work done by my PCP last month and everything came out "normal"! Even my cholesterol was down to 174!!!! I was in the high 200's and on meds before surgery.

I wasn't told to do the medifast, just liquids, and I had a very hard time-I called the nutritionist and she said that I could add cottage cheese and soft cheese and two days I had scrambled eggs- I lost 10 lbs. that week, but I cannot say I was perfect- The harder you try, the more prepared you will be after the surgery- when you first come home, you are not hungry, but when the hunger kicks in, its really hard-

So much more of this surgery is "head" work- so much more than I anticipated- the support groups are really helpful-

Hang in there- you are at the hardest part- best of luck to you

Ilene

Good Morning to all,

I am from Wantagh and just got banded on 1/4/08 by Dr. Geiss. I got the new J&J band. Anyone else have one? Also having some problems with sense of smell and with Water tasting funny anyone else experience this? How long did it take to feel good again I am so tired and having a hard time walking around.

Thanks,

Val:help:

Val - I hope you feel better soon. I had a really easy recovery and was feeling back to normal in under a week. It did take me awhile to get my energy level back though.

I didn't know Dr Geiss was using the J&J band now. Thanks for the info.

I was banded by him in Aug and got the AP band.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
