Protein With Fruit

Recommended Posts

Just curious, I start my preop liguid diet one week from today and wanted to know if it's ok to add a banana or something like that to the blender with the Protein Shake? It adds a nice taste and consistency but wasn't sure if that would be like cheating.

What does your pre-op diet consist of? There are tons of pre-op diets. Did you get a booklet or manual of things you can have? If you did, and bananas are on it, it's fine to blend them up. If they're not on a list of things you can have, you'll need to call and ask. Pre-op diets are usually used to deplete the liver of sugar stores, which makes it considerably smaller. Bananas have about 30g carbs, depending on size, so it will all depend on what your diet allows.

Wheetsin nailed it. It really depends on your doctor. You got good advice to call your doctor if it isn't in the list. fruit wasn't on my list but I was told I could add 1/2 cup fruit or 1/2 a small banana to my smoothies. That being said, I never did. Good luck.

Thanks for all the input, it's very helpful. Funny thing is, I start my preop diet the day before I actually go to the class where I will get all of the information I need supposedly.

You might start a new post with you doctor's name and see if anyone had used the same one. They would know the requirements.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
