Ok so I am 23 years old 260 lbs 5'8. I was going to get the lapband but after talking to my surgeon decided the sleeve was best for me :). I have done all my requirements this far. Bcbs required a psych eval, a nutrition consult, and a physician consult. They submitted my papers Friday!!!! How long did it take for y'all to be approved? Then how long for surgery? Any other requirements? My doctor mentioned a GI study before surgery to see if I had a hiatal hernia. Thanks in advance!!

Hi Tasha, I have UHC and my paperwork was submitted 6/28. I'm in the waiting game right now. From what I've read on the site, the approval time varies for every one! Fingers crossed that it will not take long! :)

I believe that some have said 4 or 5 but I'm not sure! I hear you about wanting to know. When I started this process and they told me that it could take 3 to 6 months, I thought for sure that they were exaggerating! Lol. I'm almost at the 3 month mark so they know what they are talking about! :). Best of luck to you!

The incision count can be anywhere from 1 (not real common at this point) to 7 (also not real common) but usually 4 or 5.

Goodness! I hope it doesn't take three months for approval!

I don't know about the approval time as I did cash pay. However, I do know about the incisions....at least mine. I had surgery June 5th and I had 5 incisions which are all healing quite nicely. Good luck in your journey. I hope you get your approval quickly!

I have not had it yet, I am a July 10th sleever. I have worked at several hospitals that did strictly weight loss surgery and even taught a few seminars for them. I just know a lot about the procedures.

Very close! Well you are well versed. I was pro band till I met with my doctor. And found out the sleeve was best.

Hey Tashashantel,

I have BCBS Federal. I got my approval in 9 business days. If you call they will give you an estimate on how long the authorization will take.

Good luck!

Hey Tasha, let me clarify.... The process from when I first attended a weightless seminar until now has been approximately 3 months. Not the insurance approval. Sorry that was confusing! :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
