I get gas pains in my chest & back ANYTIME I drink/eat anything. Ive tried gas-x but its only temporary relief. Has anyone else has this same problem. Im finding it hard to drink/eat because I know I will be in pain afterwards.

I do have this problem. For me I guess it doesn't really feel like normal gas pain...it feels more like a hard lump in my esophagus and back. I do know it's gas though, because I feel like I just need to be burped, and I have on occassion had my son karate chop my back which does help...the more I burp, the more it loosens up. I find myself grunting and hitting my chest whenever it happens. I too am afraid to eat sometimes, for fear of the pain.

I am four weeks post-op.

I was like that for the first several weeks. I was popping gas-x like candy. But it went away and I can't remember the last time I had to take any.

I get pain only on my left side under my rib cage. I have googled everything, but I really feel like it has to be gas. I only get it after I eat or drink anything.

My Dr. has me on prilosec ... I have no idea if it helps or not. I have the same feelings as you I_did_it. I suppose my Husband is going to burp me! Im so afraid to eat. Im only 10 days post-op. The Dr. didnt seem concerned, unless I vomit & Ive been avoiding that like the plague... I do NOT want to be back in that hospital. Im glad Im not alone. I was crying this afternoon asking the "why did I do this to myself" question. I just hope this eventually goes away.

Same here. I feel like there is some sort of constriction in my esophagus up higher where you wouldn't think it would hurt. I have just kept myself moving. Walking walking and more walking. Helps to get my mind off of it and the tummy gurgling. Lol.

I am so glad to see that I am not alone! My doctor gave me no prilosec or anything, just told me to take gas-x as needed, but that doesn't seem to help. I am going for my one month check-up this thursday, so I will tell him my issues and see what happens.

@ girlfriday - My pain is also up higher in my esophagus, feels like a big lump, just stuck there. How far out are you?

@ aldmb2 - I too have asked myself many times now "why did I do this." I just keep trying to tell myself that this too shall pass, and that the hundrends of people who are soooo pleased they did this can't possibly be wrong!

Has anyone else had a PULLED ABDOMINAL MUSCLE? The nurse thinks that's what it is; on the left side but down further than my stomach. My guess is that I started sitting up out of bed too soon, really could have been anything. I also had a few hard sneezes while sitting down. Going to lay low this weekend due to lots of pain; the exception is going to the store. After 2 weeks of Clear Liquids I've been advanced to full liquids, finally going to get some real nutrition!

Wishing you all well,

Rachel

I have felt like I swallowed a rock every time I eat. It definitely is painful but is getting slightly better. I am 4 weeks out on Monday. I will tell you I have thrown up several times due to an antibiotic I had to take for an infection. It was not as bad I thought it would be. I avoided it like the plague as well but was surprised when it wasn't too bad. My doctor was upset I threw up though. He gave me phenergan to keep me from vomiting.

Hope it gets better for you soon!

I get the same think and the only thing that relieves it is walking after I eat. Helps so much!

I am 9 days out and I too feel gases. I walk pretty much everyday after eating and then drinking. I feel walking it off does help alot. You don't have to walk fast, just enough to feel a little better.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
